MAYSVILLE - The Maysville E. H. Club met at the Community Center at 1 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 18.

We had no hostess. We had a few extra things to plan for the community supper on Saturday night so we decided to eliminate our usual potluck lunch at noon. There were 13 members who answered roll call by telling what they were most thankful for this year.

The group sang “My Old Kentucky Home,” ledby Melinda Crawley. We pledged allegiance to the U.S. flag. Jewel Lukens read a poem entitled, “Do I Really Pray?” Jewel Crawley showed a beautiful quilt block and showed how to put it together. The name of the quilt is “The Spider Web.”

Melinda gave a helpful hint: When canning pumpkin, cut it into about 1-inch squares. This will allow the pressure to reach all parts of the jar better than when it is mashed. Another helpful hint for keeping lettuce longer in the refrigerator was tostore it in paper sacks instead of plastic.

Maysville had three members who attended the county meeting in Bentonville on Nov. 5. They contributed a large amount of food for the needy.

Our club was recognized for always turning in a record book each year. Our thanks to Katherine Tucker for all that work.

Three of our members received certificates for perfect attendance the past year. They were Mabel Ward, Sylvia Tucker and Jewel Lukens. Our50-year-or-more members were Jewel Crawley, Jewel Lukens and Katherine Tucker. All those being honored for various things were presented a rose.

Our Christmas party will be Dec. 16 at Bert Ballmann’s home. Each one is to bring a dish of food, a $1 gift for playing a game and a $10 gift to exchange if you desire to take part in that.

The quarter package was drawn by Jewel Lukens and furnished by Berti Ray.

Our next regular meeting will be in Nikki Crawley’s home on Jan. 17, 2011.
