Boot Drive

The Decatur Fire Department will be holding a boot drive from 1 to 6 p.m., Oct. 8, at the intersection of Roller Avenue and Main Street, to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Decatur Football Games

All home Decatur football games will be held at 7 p.m., instead of 7:30 p.m. as previously scheduled. There will be senior high home games on Oct. 8, 15, and 29, and on Nov. 5.

Quilt Class Trip

The quilt class which meets at the Gravette Church of Christ is planning an outing next Friday, Oct. 8. Quilt class members and friends are asked to meet at the church, 202 Irving Street SW, at 12 noon. From there they will car pool to Gentry to eat lunch at La Huerta Mexican restaurant and attend the quilt show at the Gentry Public Library.

OCH Harvest Festival

Ozarks Community Hospital in Gravette will hold a Gravette Clinic Open House and Harvest Festival from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13. Events include hayrides, face painting, pumpkin decorating (remember to bring a pumpkin), a free hamburger dinner grilled courtesy of Bank of Gravette, caramel apples and clinic tours. The Open House offers fun for the whole family and all activities are free and open to the public.

Maysville Appreciation

A “Community Appreciation Day” for Maysville area residents will be held Saturday, Oct. 9, at the Maysville Community Building. Activities will begin at noon and continue throughout the afternoon until 5 p.m. There will be free food, music, skits and clothes, as well as inflatables the children can enjoy. Performances by “For His Glory,” “Bethesda” and “Cow Patty Creek” will be highlights of the day, with the theme of the celebration being, “Loving God, Loving People.”

Decatur FFA Fundraiser

The Decatur FFA is selling Blue and Gold sausage, breaded chicken fillets and bacon. Proceeds from the fundraiser will be used for FFA trips and for the annual scholarship. Orders may be placed with Decatur FFA members or by calling Lisa Barrett at 787-0431.

Gentry Library Book Sale

The Gentry Public Library is holding a book sale, with numerous hardcover books available for 50 cents.

Booked for Lunch

The Gentry Public Library will host its October Booked for Lunch at noon on Monday, Oct. 11. Gentry Mayor Wes Hogue will speak on the role of government in citizens’ daily lives. The event is open to all. Attendees are invited to bring their own lunch. Adrink and cookies from the Wooden Spoon Restaurant will be provided.

Free Health Fair

The Gentry Senior Activity Center and the United Methodist Church are holding a free health fair from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 12, at the Methodist Church, on the corner of Collins and Rust. Northwest Health System will offer testing for body mass index, blood pressure, blood sugar and bone density. Eye screenings will be offered by the Boozman/Hoff eye clinic. E.H. Club Fundraiser

The Maysville E. H. Club will hold a fundraiser on Oct. 16 at the Maysville Community Building. There will be a supper, serving beans, coleslaw, cornbread, tea and coffee. Donations will be accepted for the suppers. There will also be a cake walk and home-baked pies and other food items for sale. The event is the club’s yearly fundraiser to help with the expenses at the building to keep it open for public use.

Decatur Homecoming

The Decatur High School football homecoming will be held on Oct. 15. The football game against Western Yell County will begin at 7 p.m. Homecoming events will begin with a bonfire at 8 p.m., Oct. 13. A pep rally is planned for the morning of Oct. 15. The coronation ceremony will be held at 6:30 p.m., and the dance will be held from 9:30 p.m. to midnight.

Quilt Fair Entries Needed

Gentry’s annual Fall Festival Quilt Fair will be held Oct. 8-15 at the Gentry City Library. Those who would like to enter a quilt may contact Janie Parks at 936-1498.

Decatur School Flu Shots

The Decatur School will be providing students with free flu vaccinations at both campuses on Oct. 18. The school will be sending paperwork home with students this week. Parents must fill out the release forms for students to receive the shots.

Gravette Holiness Revival

The Gravette Church of God (Holiness) will be in revival from Oct. 5 to 10. The speaker will be Robert E. Thompson Sr. He is pastor of the Mt. Zion Church of God (Holiness) near Ava, Mo. He and his wife have pastored formany years. He taught in two Christian schools and has written the “Key Comments” for the Way, Truth and Life Sunday School literature for more than 30 years. The public is invited to attend the services each night at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday at 10:45 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Watercolor Workshop

Edgmon Art, located on Stagecoach Road in Gravette, will host a watercolor workshop Oct. 6-9, with Duane Hada as instructor. The workshop will include demonstrations and individual instruction, including Ozark landscape technique by the award-winning artist from Mountain Home. Gentry Fall Festival

Gentry’s Fall Festival is set for noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 10. The day includes food, rides, face painting, children’s games and special entertainment by Trout Fishing in America.

Decatur School Board

The Decatur School Board will meet at 6 p.m., Oct. 18, in the professional development room in the building next to the high school cafeteria.

Decatur City Council

Decatur’s city council meeting has been rescheduled to 6 p.m., Oct. 19. A public hearing for the refinancing of the wastewater treatment bonds will also be held at that time. City council meetings are usually held at 6 p.m., the second Monday of the month, in the city council room. For more information, call 752-3912.

Gravette City Meetings

Gravette City Council meetings are held at the Gravette Civic Center, 401 Charlotte Street SE, every fourth Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. Gravette Committee of the Whole departmental meetings are held at City Hall, 604 First Ave. SE, every second Thursday of the month at 5:30 p.m. Gravette Planning Commission meetings are held the second Monday of the month at 406 A Main Street NE. Decatur Fall Clean-up

Roll-off Inc. will be picking up bulky waste items at the curb along with the regular trash pickup on Oct. 21. Common household items such as furniture, mattresses, large toys and Christmas trees will be accepted. Paint cans, tires, batteries, automotive fluids, engine parts, pesticides and herbicides, insecticides, fluorescent light bulbs, hazardous waste and liquid waste will not be accepted. Decatur Food Pantry

The Decatur Food Pantry is open from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursdays. The pantry offers free food to Decatur residents. The pantry is located inside the United Methodist Church in Decatur. Participants need to bring identification and a current utility bill in their name with a Decatur address. For more information, contact 752-3551.

NWA Riding Club

The NWA Riding Club continues to meet at 6 p.m. every other Saturday night until Nov. 1 at the enclosed arena at the Luca-Don Equestrian Center, 23236 Arkansas Highway 12, west of Gentry. Kingdom Kids

Heritage Baptist Church in Gravette Kingdom Kids program for children from kindergarten through fifth grade continues each Wednesday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Gravette Public Library

Gravette’s Public Library is open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The library is Internet equipped and has an extensive children’s section. Past copies of The Gravette News Herald, dating to 1894, are available on microfilm for genealogical research.

Gentry City Council

The Gentry City Council holds regular meetings in the city court room at 6:30 p.m., the first Monday ofeach month. The Gentry Planning and Zoning Commission meets in city hall at 7 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month.

Gentry School Board

The Gentry School Board holds regular meetings at 7 p.m. on the third Monday of each month in the school district board room.

Springtown Council

The Springtown Council meets at 6 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month, in the new community building.

Town of Highfill

Highfill’s next council meeting will be at 6:30 p.m., Oct. 14, at the Highfill Community Building. The planning commission meeting is at 6:30 p.m., Oct. 26.

Gentry Lions Club

The Gentry Lions Club meets from 6:30 until 7:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month. The club is now meeting in the Gentry Public Library’s community room. Visitors are always welcome.

VFW Meetings

The Gentry/Decatur VFW Post meets on the first Tuesday of each month - at 7:30 p.m. New members and guests are welcome. The facility is 3 miles east of Decatur on Arkansas Highway 102, right on Tilly’s Hill Road, and the first building on the right.

Historical Museum

The Gravette Historical Museum, located in the historic Kindley Home at 503 Charlotte S.E. is open Tuesday and Saturday afternoons from noon until4 p.m. and on Thursdays from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Displays include those germane to Gravette and the surrounding area and includes photos of all Gravette High School graduating classes dating to the early 1900s. There is no admission.

Senior Activity Center

Gentry Senior Activity Center, at 121 East Main Street (just east of the Gentry Public Library) is open from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Meals and rides to the center and activities are available Monday through Friday by calling Jackie Bader, the center’s manager, at 736-0378. Van routes are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday - Gentry, Highfill and Springtown; and Tuesday and Friday - Gentry and Decatur.

Singing Services

Monthly singing services at Falling Springs Church are held at 7 p.m., the first Friday of each month. The church is located northwest of Gentry and west of Decatur on Falling Springs Road.

Address Markers

Gentry Fire Department has reflective address markers available to help responders locate a home or apartment quickly in the event of an emergency. The reflective address markers are only $10 and are made to last for years. For more information, call 228-0694. The signs are also available from the Highfill Volunteer Fire Department. Those in the Highfill Fire District may obtain the signs for $10 by calling 736-5711 or stopping at the Highfill City Hall.
