Gravette Flu Clinic

The Billy V. Hall Senior Activity Center in Gravette will be holding a flu clinic from 9 a.m. until noon on Wednesday, Oct. 20. The center will be giving flu shots, but only a limited number of shots will be available. Preregistration is required. Those on Medicare must bring their Medicare card with them. Those not on Medicare will be charged $25 per vaccine. Call 787-5950.

VFW Ladies Auxiliary

A new VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 9834 is forming in Decatur and will meet at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 19, at the Decatur VFW building (on Tilly’s Hill Rd., just south of Arkansas Highway 102). Decatur Parent-Teacher Conferences

Decatur Schools will hold parent-teacher conferences for high school and elementary students from 4-7 p.m., Oct. 19 and 21. The high school will also be holding a special parents night on Oct. 19, with an annual report to the public at 6 p.m. in the high school library. The evening will also include Smart Core training and volunteer discipline training with a special focus on seventh grade parents.

Decatur School Pictures

Decatur High School and Elementary School students will have their school pictures taken on Oct. 25. The schools will be sending home information packets for parents to fill out and return during the week of Oct. 18.

Gravette Pee Wee Basketball

Gravette Pee Wee basketball signups will be at 6 p.m., Friday, Oct. 15, at the old gym.

Chili, Potato Soup Dinner

Gentry Senior Activity Center is having a Chili-Potato Soup dinner from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 22. The meal includes salad, crackers, dessert and a drink for a donation of $6 for adults and $3 for children under 6. The proceeds will be used for the senior meal program. Pioneer Pride Party

The Gentry Band Boosters will be holding its second annual Pioneer Pride Party from 5 to 9 p.m. on Oct. 30. The event will take place at the Main Street Pavilion in Gentry (next door to the Chicken Coop Flea Market). Everyone is welcome and admission is free. The event is designed to encourage student involvement in the community while inviting the community to support the Gentry Band students. The fall themed event will include a chili cook-off, pumpkin decorating contest, children’s games and concessions.

Gravette Blood Drive

Community Blood Center of the Ozarks will conduct a blood drive in Gravette next Monday, October 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Ozarks Community Hospital in Gravette. The Blood Center has issued a “code yellow” for Type O negative blood, with less than a two-day supply of this blood on hospital shelves.

Decatur Football Games

All home Decatur football games will be held at 7 p.m., instead of 7:30 p.m. as previously scheduled. There will be senior high home games on Oct. 15, Oct. 29 and on Nov. 5.

OCH Harvest Festival

Ozarks Community Hospital in Gravette will hold a Gravette Clinic Open House and Harvest Festival from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13. Events include hayrides, face painting, pumpkin decorating (remember to bring a pumpkin), a free hamburger dinner grilled courtesy of Bank of Gravett, caramel apples and clinic tours. The open house offers fun for the whole family and all activities are free and open to the public.

Decatur FFA Fundraiser

The Decatur FFA is selling Blue and Gold sausage, breaded chicken fillets and bacon. Proceeds from the fundraiser will be used for FFA trips and for the annual scholarship. Orders may be placed with Decatur FFA members or by calling Lisa Barrett at 787-0431.

Gentry Library Book Sale

The Gentry Public Library is holding a book sale, with numerous hardcover books available for 50 cents.

Maysville E.H. Club Fundraiser

The Maysville E. H. Club will hold a fundraiser on Oct. 16 at the Maysville Community Building. There will be a supper, serving beans, coleslaw, cornbread, tea and coffee. Donations will be accepted for the suppers. There will also be a cake walk and home-baked pies and other food items for sale. The event is the club’s yearly fundraiser to help with the expenses at the building to keep it open for public use.

Decatur Homecoming

The Decatur High School football homecoming will be held on Oct. 15. The football game against Western Yell County will begin at 7 p.m. Homecoming events will begin with a bonfire at 8 p.m., Oct. 13. A pep rally is planned for the morning of Oct. 15. The coronation ceremony will be held at 6:30 p.m., and the dance will be held from 9:30 p.m. to midnight.

Decatur School Flu Shots

The Decatur School will be providing students with free flu vaccinations atboth campuses on Oct. 18. The school will be sending paperwork home with students this week. Parents must fill out the release forms for students to receive the shots.

Decatur School Board

The Decatur School Board will meet at 6 p.m., Oct. 18, in the professional development room in the building next to the high school cafeteria.

Decatur City Council

Decatur’s city council meeting has been rescheduled to 6 p.m., Oct. 19. A public hearing for the refinancing of the wastewater treatment bonds will also be held at that time. City council meetings are usually held at 6 p.m., the second Monday of the month, in the city council room. For more information, call 752-3912.

Gravette City Meetings

Gravette City Council meetings are held at the Gravette Civic Center, 401 Charlotte Street SE, every fourth Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. Gravette Committee of the Whole departmental meetings are held at City Hall, 604 First Ave. SE, every second Thursday of the month at 5:30 p.m. Gravette Planning Commission meetings are held the second Monday of the month at 406 A Main Street NE. Decatur Fall Clean-up

Roll-off Inc. will be picking up bulky waste items at the curb along with the regular trash pickup on Oct. 21. Common household items such as furniture, mattresses, large toys and Christmas trees will be accepted. Paint cans, tires, batteries, automotive fluids, engine parts, pesticides and herbicides, insecticides, fluorescent light bulbs, hazardous waste and liquid waste will not be accepted. Highfill “Trunk or Treat”

Highfill is planning a “Trunk or Treat” event in the town’s city park from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 31. Instead of sending children out on the streets, the event provides a safe alternative for children. Area residents are encouraged to decorate their car trunk or their pickup truck tailgate and bring lots of treats to hand out to local children. Children go trunk to trunk in their costumes to collect their treats. Cars will start lining up and preparing for the event at 4:30 p.m. so they can be ready for the children to begin coming at 5 p.m.

Gravette Halloween

A Spook House and Trunk-r-Treat event will beheld Saturday, Oct. 30, in Gravette, sponsored by the Gravette Public Library and the Boys and Girls Club, with participation by the Gravette Police Department, Fire Department, Emergency Services Department and the OCH Hospital. Activities will be held at the Civic Center and on the lot behind the library, located on Charlotte Street S.E. Trunk-r-Treat for children will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. and the Spook House, for ages 13 and older, will start at 7 p.m. and end at midnight. Admission is free.

Decatur Food Pantry

The Decatur Food Pantry is open from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursdays. The pantry offers free food to Decatur residents. The pantry is located inside the United Methodist Church in Decatur. Participants need to bring identification and a current utility bill in their name with a Decatur address. For more information, contact 752-3551.

NWA Riding Club

The NWA Riding Club continues to meet at 6 p.m. every other Saturday night until Nov. 1 at the enclosed arena at the Luca-Don Equestrian Center, 23236 Arkansas Highway 12, west of Gentry. Senior Parent Night

The Gentry High School Senior Parent Night will be Oct.19th. Mrs. Pipkin will be presenting information about scholarships, ACT Prep and preparing for college. The meeting will be held in the high school library and will begin at 6 p.m.

Gravette Public Library

Gravette’s Public Library is open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The library is Internet equipped and has an extensive children’s section. Past copies of The Gravette News Herald, dating to 1894, are available on microfilm for genealogical research.

Gentry City Council

The Gentry City Council holds regular meetings in the city court room at 6:30 p.m., the first Monday of each month. The Gentry Planning and Zoning Commission meets in city hall at7 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month.

Gentry School Board

The Gentry School Board holds regular meetings at 7 p.m. on the third Monday of each month in the school district board room.

Springtown Council

The Springtown Council meets at 6 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month, in the new community building.

Town of Highfill

Highfill’s next council meeting will be at 6:30 p.m., Oct. 14, at the Highfill Community Building. The planning commission meeting is at 6:30 p.m., Oct. 26.

Gentry Lions Club

The Gentry Lions Club meets from 6:30 until 7:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month. The club is now meeting in the Gentry Public Library’s community room. Visitors are always welcome.

VFW Meetings

The Gentry/Decatur VFW Post meets on the first Tuesday of each month - at 7:30 p.m. New members and guests are welcome. The facility is 3 miles east of Decatur on Arkansas Highway 102, right on Tilly’s Hill Road, and the first building on the right.

Gravette Historical Museum

The Gravette Historical Museum, located in the historic Kindley Home at 503 Charlotte S.E. is open Tuesday and Saturday afternoons from noon until 4 p.m. and on Thursdays from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Displays include those germane to Gravette and the surrounding area and includes photos of all Gravette High School graduating classes dating to the early 1900s. There is no admission.

Gentry Senior Center

Gentry Senior Activity Center, at 121 East Main Street (just east of the Gentry Public Library) is open from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Meals and rides to the center and activities are available Monday through Friday by calling Jackie Bader, the center’s manager, at 736-0378. Van routes are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday - Gentry, Highfill and Springtown; and Tuesday and Friday - Gentry and Decatur.

Singing Services

Monthly singing services at Falling Springs Church are held at 7 p.m., the first Friday of each month. The church is located northwest of Gentry and west of Decatur on Falling Springs Road.

Address Markers

Gentry Fire Department has reflective address markers available to help responders locate a home or apartment quickly in the event of an emergency. The reflective address markers are only $10 and are made to last for years. For more information, call 228-0694. The signs are also available from the Highfill Volunteer Fire Department. Those in the Highfill Fire District may obtain the signs for $10 by calling 736-5711 or stopping at the Highfill City Hall.
