DECATUR HOMECOMING Junior Bulldogs continue winning streak

Wednesday, October 20, 2010

— The junior high Bulldogs won their fifth straight game in a row on Friday against Western Yell County by a score of 36-0.

Steven Buckmaster, Alan Castaneda and Victor Urquidi all scored during the game, according to head coach Stan Ellis.

Friday’s senior high homecoming game got off to a good start with a touchdown by Mitchell Perry during the first quarter, but by the third quarter three of Decatur’s defensive starters were out of the game due to injuries and the Bulldogs fell behind for a final score of 36-6.

“We had a promising start that ended badly,” Ellis said.

This week both Decatur’s junior high and senior high teams will face Danville. The Danville team will probably be one of the two best Decatur has faced this season, Ellis said. Danville’s senior high team is ranked in the top ten in the state in class 2A, and the junior high team is pretty good, too, he said.

Decatur also faces the challenge of having a total of six players out with injuries, but Ellis hopes to get a few back before next week's game.

“We hope to play mistake-free football,” Ellis said, “We’re hanging in there.”
