— About 40 people were in attendance at the second “No Annexation” meeting held at the Boling Farm on Thursday.

Bob Clinard, of Clinard Construction Management and also a candidate for Benton County Judge, attended the meeting and questioned the method by which the Gravette annexation measure was added to the ballot.

Jackie Queen reported on the group’s finances and on money held in the Bank of Gravett.

With donated money, the group purchased signs opposing the city’s annexation measure and plans to post them throughout the city and on affected properties in the proposed annexation areas.

A door-to-door campaign is planned for Saturday, Oct. 23, to inform Gravette voters of the reasons why they should vote against the measure, Bert Johnson told those in attendance. The campaign will begin at the Marvin’s Food Store.

The use of absentee ballots and voting was explained to those in attendance by Virgil Jasper, with the group encouraging all to vote - whether by absentee ballot, early voting or at the polls on Nov. 2 - to defeat the measure.

Future strategies to fight the annexation, should voters approve the measure, were also discussed.
