— Quilling Class Offered

Quilling classes will be offered at the Gentry Public Library at 2 p.m. and at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 21. The two-hour classes will be presented by Jackie Wren from Siloam Springs. Wren has been quilling for six years and has developed Card Craft Creations with many card techniques. She gives classes for individuals or groups. A fee of $10 will be charged to participants to cover the cost of supplies. The 2 p.m. class is full but there are still openings in the evening class. The Decatur High School class of 1970 will hold its 40th reunion at 6 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 23, at “On The Border” in Rogers. All members are encouraged to attend. Reservations are not required. Project Prom Committee

The Gravette Project Prom Committee will hold its first meeting at 6:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 25, at the Bank of Gravett Community Room. Committee members will be selected and fundraising efforts will begin. Junior and senior parents are invited to attend the meeting and join the committee. Volunteers will be needed. Chili, Potato Soup Dinner

Gentry Senior Activity Center is having a Chili-Potato Soup dinner from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 22. The meal includes salad, crackers, dessert and a drink for a donation of $6 for adults and $3 for children under 6. The proceeds will be used for the senior meal program. The Gravette High School cheerleaders will be collecting donations at the Gravette-Shiloh football game Friday night. Cheerleaders will be wearing pink and collecting money before the game and at half-timefor the Susan G. Komen Foundation in observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Upcoming Blood Drives

Community Blood Center of the Ozarks will hold blood drives at the following locations next week: From 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 25, in Gentry, at the Arvest Bank, 320 E. Main Street; and from 2 to 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 25, in Decatur, at the Decatur Medi Clinic, 346 N. Main Street. Eligibility requirements include weighing at least 110 pounds, being in general good health and presenting the required identification.

Jolly Good Times Club

The regular monthly meeting of the Jolly Good Times Club will be held at 10:30 a.m. next Wednesday, Oct. 27, at the Billy V. Hall Senior Activity Center. Members will assemble in the computer room at 10:15. New members and guests are always welcome. Chia Greer will give the program for the October meeting. The potluck meal will feature meat prepared by Betty, salad by Chia, potatoes by Eda, veggies by Mary and Jeanne and dessert by Susan.

Decatur School Pictures

Decatur High School and Elementary School students will have their school pictures taken on Oct. 25. The schools will be sending home information packets for parents to fill out and return this week.

Pioneer Pride Party

The Gentry Band Boosters will be holding its second annual Pioneer Pride Party from 5 to 9 p.m. on Oct. 30. The event will take place at the Main Street Pavilion in Gentry (next door to the Chicken Coop Flea Market). Everyone is welcome and admission is free. The event is designed to encourage student involvement in the community while inviting the community to support the Gentry Band students. The fall-themed event will include a chili cook-off, pumpkin decorating contest, children’s games and concessions.

Decatur Football Games

All home Decatur football games will be held at 7 p.m., instead of 7:30 p.m. as previously scheduled. There will be senior highhome games on Oct. 29 and on Nov. 5.

Gentry Library Book Sale

The Gentry Public Library is holding a book sale, with numerous hardcover books available for 50 cents.

Decatur School Board

The Decatur School Board meets at 6 p.m., on the third Monday each month, in the professional development room, in the building next to the high school cafeteria. Decatur City Council

Gravette City Council meetings are held at 7 p.m. every fourth Thursday of each month in the Gravette Civic Center, 401 Charlotte Street SE. Committee of the Whole departmental meetings are held at 5:30 p.m. every second Thursday of the month at City Hall, 604 First Ave. SE. Decatur Fall Clean-up

Roll-off Inc. will be picking up bulky waste items at the curb along with the regular trash pickup on Oct. 21. Common household items such as furniture, mattresses, large toys and Christmas trees will be accepted. Paint cans, tires, batteries, automotive fluids, engine parts, pesticides and herbicides, insecticides, fluorescent light bulbs, hazardous waste and liquid waste will not be accepted. FCCLA Chili Dinner

The Gravette High School FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) and Culinary Arts Club will hold a chili dinner Friday, Oct. 29, at the High School Commons. Serving will be from 5 to 7 p.m., preceding the Senior Night football game. The dinner with drink is $5 and all proceeds will help pay expenses for sending students to competitions and with community service projects.

Highfill “Trunk or Treat”

Highfill is planning a “Trunk or Treat” event inthe town’s city park from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 31. Instead of sending children out on the streets, the event provides a safe alternative for children. Area residents are encouraged to decorate their car trunk or their pickup truck tailgate and bring lots of treats to hand out to local children. Children go trunk to trunk in their costumes to collect their treats. Cars will start lining up and preparing for the event at 4:30 p.m. so they can be ready for the children to begin coming at 5 p.m.

Gravette Halloween

A Spook House and Trunk or Treat event will be held Saturday, Oct. 30, in Gravette, sponsored by the Gravette Public Library and the Boys and Girls Club, with participation by the Gravette Police Department, Fire Department, Emergency Services Department and the OCH Hospital. Activities will be held at the Civic Center and on the lot behind the library, located on Charlotte Street S.E. Trunk or Treat for children will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. and the Spook House, for ages 13 and older, will start at 7 p.m. and end at midnight. Admission is free.

Decatur Trunk or Treat

Gravette School Flu Shots

Flu shot day for children in Gravette Public Schools has been announced and parent information is being sent home with each child sometime this week, according to school nurse Karen Kerr. Signed permission forms must be submitted by parents for their children to receive the shots. The vaccines will be administered at the elementary and middle school on Nov. 8 and 9 and in the high school on Nov. 9. The onetime shot contains vaccine for both the H1N1 (Swine Flu) strain and the regular/ traditional flu strain. Benton County health officials, as well as staff members from the Ozarks Community Hospital/Clinic and student volunteers, will assist the school nurses in the project.

Decatur Food Pantry

The Decatur Food Pantry is open from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursdays. The pantry offers free food to Decatur residents. The pantry is located inside the United Methodist Church in Decatur. Participants need to bring identification and a current utility bill in their name with a Decatur address. For more information, contact 752-3551.

NWA Riding Club

The NWA Riding Club continues to meet at 6 p.m. every other Saturday night until Nov. 1 at the enclosed arena at the Luca-Don Equestrian Center, 23236 Arkansas Highway 12, west of Gentry. Gravette Public Library

Gravette’s Public Library is open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The library is Internet equipped and has an extensive children’s section. Past copies of The Gravette News Herald, dating to 1894, are available on microfilm for genealogical research.

Gentry City Council

The Gentry City Council holds regular meetings in the city court room at 6:30 p.m., the first Monday of each month. The Gentry Planning and Zoning Commission meets in city hall at 7 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month.

Gentry School Board

The Gentry School Board holds regular meetings at 7 p.m. on the third Monday of each month in the school district board room.

Springtown Council

The Springtown Council meets at 6 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month, in the new community building.

Town of Highfill

Highfill’s next council meeting will be at 6:30 p.m., Nov. 16, at the Highfill Community Building. The planning commission meeting is at 6:30 p.m., Oct. 26.

Gentry Lions Club

The Gentry Lions Club meets from 6:30 until 7:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month. The club is nowmeeting in the Gentry Public Library’s community room. Visitors are always welcome.

VFW Meetings

The Gentry/Decatur VFW Post meets on the first Tuesday of each month - at 7:30 p.m. New members and guests are welcome. The facility is 3 miles east of Decatur on Arkansas Highway 102, right on Tilly’s Hill Road, and the first building on the right.

Gravette Museum

The Gravette Historical Museum, located in the historic Kindley Home at 503 Charlotte S.E. is open Tuesday and Saturday afternoons from noon until 4 p.m. and on Thursdays from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Displays include those germane to Gravette and the surrounding area and includes photos of all Gravette High School graduating classes dating to the early 1900s. There is no admission.

Gentry Senior Center

Gentry Senior Activity Center, at 121 East Main Street (just east of the Gentry Public Library) is open from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Meals and rides to the center and activities are available Monday through Friday by calling Jackie Bader, the center’s manager, at 736-0378. Van routes are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday - Gentry, Highfill and Springtown; and Tuesday and Friday - Gentry and Decatur.

Singing Services

Monthly singing services at Falling Springs Church are held at 7 p.m., the first Friday of each month. The church is located northwest of Gentry and west of Decatur on Falling Springs Road.

Address Markers

Gentry Fire Department has reflective address markers available to help responders locate a home or apartment quickly in the event of an emergency. The reflective address markers are only $10 and are made to last for years. For more information, call 228-0694. The signs are also available from the Highfill Volunteer Fire Department. Those in the Highfill Fire District may obtain the signs for $10 by calling 736-5711 or stopping at the Highfill City Hall.
