Trick or Treat on Main

Saturday night is Gentry’s annual Trick or Treat on Main Street, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Businesses are expecting more than a thousand children.

Halloween Dance

The Gravette Middle School Builders Club will sponsor a Halloween Dance and costume contest at the Middle School cafeteria from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m., Oct. 29. Admission is $3 per person or $5 for couples. Pizza and soda pop will be available. Costumes are being encouraged but not required.

Elementary Fall Festival

The Decatur Northside Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization is hosting a fall festival from 6 to 8 p.m., Oct. 29. The festival will include food, games, a costume contest and a silent auction with proceeds going to the PTO playground fund.

Meet the Bulldogs

The Decatur High School basketball teams will hold a Meet the Bulldogs event for parents and community members at 6 p.m., Nov. 12, in the high school gym. The event will include a pie auction to raise money for the basketball teams.

Coffelt Cemetery

A Coffelt Cemetery workday will be held at 9 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 30. Cemetery patrons are invited to come and bring their tools.

Decatur Halloween

The official day for trickor-treating in Decatur will be Saturday, Oct. 30. The Decatur Fire Department will be passing out candy in the General Store parking lot and will have several fire trucks on display.

Decatur AG Fall Festival

Decatur Assembly of God Church will hold their fall festival and “Trunk or Treat” this Sunday, Oct. 31. The event will continue from 1 to 4 p.m. at the church. Sack lunches will be provided and there will be games and a costume contest.

Hiwasse Baptist Festival

First Baptist Church, Hiwasse, will hold a Fall Festival Sunday, Oct. 31. There will be a supper at 5 p.m., followed by games at 6 p.m. Children may wear costumes but it is requested they not be scary. Everyone is welcome.

Guest Speaker at Faith

Ed DeLapp, former pastor of Faith Bible Church, will be guest speaker at that church Sunday, Oct. 31, at 11 a.m. He will be accompanied by his wife Beverly and the couple will attend a fellowship dinner following the service. Faith Bible Church is located south of Gravette on Highway 59 at the bottom of the hill. For information or rides, call Steve or Fran Allen at 787-9926.

Christmas Project

Mount Pleasant youth will sponsor a yard and bake sale to raise funds to buy Christmas gifts for needy children. The sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, October 30, across from the Bank of Gravette.

UMC Trunk or Treat

Gravette United Methodist Church will sponsor a Halloween “Trunk or Treat” event for children in the Gravette area Saturday, October 30, at the church parking lot on Akron Street Northeast. Children are invited to attend between the hours of 5 and 7 p.m.

Quilt Classes Resume

After a break for the summer months, the Gravette quilt class will resume at 1p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30. The class will meet at the Gravette Church of Christ annex. Those attending are asked to bring a snack to share.

Pioneer Pride Party

The Gentry Band Boosters will be holding its second annual Pioneer Pride Party from 5 to 9 p.m. on Oct. 30. The event will take place at the Main Street Pavilion in Gentry (next door to the Chicken Coop Flea Market). Everyone is welcome and admission is free. The event is designed to encourage student involvement in the community while inviting the community to support the Gentry Band students. The fall-themed event will include a chili cook-off, pumpkin decorating contest, children’s games and concessions.

Hunter Education

An Arkansas Game and Fish Commission hunter education course will be offered at the Gentry Public Library from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, Nov. 2, 3 and 4. To be certified, participants will need to attend all three sessions. An approved hunter-education course is required before any person can hunt in Arkansas unless their birthday is on or before Dec. 31, 1968. The class is free. Decatur Football Games

All home Decatur football games will be held at 7 p.m., instead of 7:30 p.m. as previously scheduled. There will be senior high home games on Oct. 29 and on Nov. 5.

Gentry Library Book Sale

The Gentry Public Library is holding a book sale, with numerous hardcover books available for 50 cents.

Decatur School Board

The Decatur School Board meets at 6 p.m., on the third Monday each month, in the professional development room, in the building next to the high school cafeteria.

Decatur City Council

Decatur City Council meetings are held at 6 p.m., the second Monday of the month, in the city council room. For more information, call 752-3912.

Gravette City Meetings

Gravette City Council meetings are held at 7 p.m. every fourth Thursday of each month in the Gravette Civic Center, 401 Charlotte Street SE. Committee of the Whole departmental meetings are held at 5:30 p.m. every second Thursday of the month at City Hall, 604 First Ave. SE.

FCCLA Chili Dinner

The Gravette High School FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) and Culinary Arts Club will hold a chili dinner Friday, Oct. 29, at the High School Commons. Serving will be from 5 to 7 p.m., preceding the Senior Night football game. The dinner with drink is $5 and all proceeds will help pay expenses for sending students to competitions and with community service projects.

Highfill “Trunk or Treat”

Highfill is planning a “Trunk or Treat” event in the town’s city park from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 31. Instead of sending children out on the streets, the event provides a safe alternative for children. Area residents are encouraged to decorate their car trunk or their pickup truck tailgate and bring lots of treats to hand out to local children. Children go trunk to trunk in their costumes to collect their treats. Cars will start lining up and preparing for the event at 4:30 p.m. so they can be ready for the children to begin coming at 5 p.m.

Gravette Halloween

A Spook House and Trunk or Treat event will be held Saturday, Oct. 30, in Gravette, sponsored by the Gravette Public Library and the Boys and Girls Club, with participation by the Gravette Police Department, Fire Department, Emergency Services Department and the OCH Hospital. Activities will be held at the Civic Center and on the lot behind the library, located on Charlotte Street S.E. Trunk or Treat for children will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. and the Spook House, for ages 13 and older, will start at 7 p.m. and end at midnight. Admission is free.

UMC Trunk or Treat

The Decatur United Methodist Church will host “Trunk or Treat,” with free hot-dogs and drinks on Sunday, Oct. 31, beginning about 5 p.m. For more information, contact Timmie Owens at 479-752-8166, 479-633-1574, or by email at [email protected].

Schools Flu Shots

Flu shot day for children in Gravette Public Schools has been announced, according to school nurse Karen Kerr. Signed permission forms must be submitted by parents for their children to receive the shots. The vaccines will be administered at the elementary and middle school on Nov. 8 and 9 and in the high schoolon Nov. 9. The one-time shot contains vaccine for both the H1N1 (Swine Flu) strain and the regular/traditional flu strain. Benton County health officials, as well as staff members from the Ozarks Community Hospital/Clinic and student volunteers, will assist the school nurses in the project.

Decatur Food Pantry

The Decatur Food Pantry is open from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursdays. The pantry offers free food to Decatur residents. The pantry is located inside the United Methodist Church in Decatur. Participants need to bring identification and a current utility bill in their name with a Decatur address. For more information, contact 752-3551.

Gravette Public Library

Gravette’s Public Library is open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The library is Internet equipped and has an extensive children’s section. Past copies of The Gravette News Herald, dating to 1894, are available on microfilm for genealogical research.

Gentry City Council

The Gentry City Council holds regular meetings in the city court room at 6:30 p.m., the first Monday of each month. The Gentry Planning and Zoning Commission meets in city hall at 7 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month.

Gentry School Board

The Gentry School Board holds regular meetings at 7 p.m. on the third Mondayof each month in the school district board room.

Springtown Council

The Springtown Council meets at 6 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month, in the new community building.

Town of Highfill

Highfill’s next council meeting will be at 6:30 p.m., Nov. 16, at the Highfill Community Building. The planning commission meeting is at 6:30 p.m., Nov. 23.

Gentry Lions Club

The Gentry Lions Club meets from 6:30 until 7:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month. The club is now meeting in the Gentry Public Library’s community room.

VFW Meetings

The Gentry/Decatur VFW Post meets on the first Tuesday of each month - at 7:30 p.m. New members and guests are welcome. The facility is 3 miles east of Decatur on Arkansas Highway 102,right on Tilly’s Hill Road, and the first building on the right.

Gentry Senior Center

Gentry Senior Activity Center, at 121 East Main Street (just east of the Gentry Public Library) is open from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Meals and rides to the center and activities are available Monday through Friday by calling Jackie Bader, the center’s manager, at 736-0378. Van routes are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday - Gentry, Highfill and Springtown; and Tuesday and Friday - Gentry and Decatur.

Gravette Senior Center

The Billy V. Hall Senior Activity Center, at 1870 Limekiln Road, is open from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Many activities are scheduled and lunch is served every weekday.
