Merchant's club supports livestock auction

— The evening of Aug. 21 was a tension-filled time for approximately 165 young ladies and gentlemen.

The reason for this tension was that they were about to take part in the Benton County Fair Junior Livestock Auction. After months of hard work and caring effort they were about to have the opportunity to reap the benefits of their labor. They were going to auction their animals to the highest bidder for premiums.

Thirty-four of these participants, from the Gentry area, who are members of the Bloomfield 4-H Club and Gentry FFA, did not need to feel as much concern about their situation as many of the other participants. The reason for this was that they were being supported by the Gentry Merchants Club. The Merchants Club was there to make sure that they each would get a minimum bid that was in line with what other participants from the surrounding areas were getting.

This benefit to the young people of the Gentry area was provided by the generosity of business people and individuals in the community. The money provided for these bids was made possible by the following: Shook's Used Cars, Roberts and Philpott Eye Clinic, Coones Electric, Eldon Cripps; attorney at law, Smith Drug, The Chicken Coop, Alan Lamb; DDS, Adams Truss, Spavinaw Stove Company, Tri State Vending, Mike’s MowerParts, ARCO Environments, Tufco Great Lakes, David & Loretta Millsap, Keith & Georgia Harper, Rex & Shirley Harper, Paul & Troiella Jeffus, Floyd & Berta Norris, Stephen Hillhouse, George (Buzz) & Mary Channey.

Sonic of Gentry is specially recognized, for providing certificates for a hamburger and soft drink for each participant from the Gentry area. Cooperation of Rob Curran, representing Curran Feed Store, in helping to increase the bids for several of the participants is greatly appreciated.

Please take the opportunity to give patronage to the businesses and thanks to the individuals that enabled the Gentry Merchants Club to help the youth of the community.
