Passing game in need of improvement before Gravette opener

— The first noticeable thing Gravette coach Bill Harrelson saw that needs improvement by Friday’s season opener against Jay, Okla., is the passing game.

Lions starting quarterback Colton Davis completed only one pass other than the two touchdown tosses he made in Thursday’s scrimmageagainst Lincoln. Davis wound up completing 3 of 7 passes for 83 yards, while backup Clayton Alexander hit 1 of 2 attempts for 36 yards.

“I thought we started getting better as the game went along,” Harrelson said. “But we have got to work on our passing game. We’re just not clicking right now.

“I think we had only one dropped pass so our receivers did a good jobon their part. We’ll just try to keep improving before next game.”

The Lions, however, were very effective when throwing passes on fourth down. Davis hit Trey Tyner on a 33-yard touchdown pass on a fourthand-8 situation while Alexander’s completion came on a fourth-and-8 play and set up Dallas Kerley’s 12-yard touchdown run on the following play.
