— Gravette City Council considered items other than the wastewater treatment plant project during its meeting Aug. 26.

The main order of business was approving on three readings an ordinance repealing Ordinance 81-6 which restricts the use of firearms insidethe city limits and giving approval to a new ordinance.

The new ordinance allows any person who owns, leases or rents two or more acres of property zoned as A1 (Agricultural) within the corporate limits of the city to use firearms, air guns and spring action weapons on their property pursuant to state and local laws and the regulations and laws of the Arkansas Game andFish Commission. Violators are subject to a fine not in excess of $500.

Other action included accepting the resignation of Kurt Maddox from the City Council. The city will accept applications from persons in Ward 3 who wish to be named to the position. Ward 3 is all land east of Highway 59 and north of Main Street to Park Street, thence east on Highway 72. Persons interested in the position should notify city hall.

In other business, the council postponed action on a contract for sanitation service; postponed action on a city purchasing manual; referred a city personnel manual to the committee of the whole; adjusted a water bill for a customer; and took no action on a sanitation bill because the customer lives outside the city limits.
