— The Pioneers picked up a big win - considered by many an upset - in Charleston on Friday night.

Gentry senior Eathen Ramsey displayed his versatility in the game with a productive effort in the Pioneers’ 27-13 victory over the Tigers.

Ramsey, a 6-0, 215-pound running back and linebacker, ran for a touchdown and intercepted two passes to help the Pioneers (2-0) continue their strong start to the season.

Gentry has used Ramsey in a wide variety of roles over the past three seasons.

He played running back as a sophomore and shifted to the offensive line last year before returning to his natural offensive position for his final season.

Ramsey appears healthy this year after battling ankle and knee injuries the past two seasons.

“He’s just got that desire to make Gentry a better program,” Coach Brian Little said. “With his size and strength, he’s a pretty good load. He’s comfortable back there, and certainly he has experience.”

Austin Millsap threw touchdown passes to Justin Stewart and Kevin Scherer against Charleston, which was ranked No.

1 in Class 3A going into the game after going 11-1 last year.

“He’s done such a great job managing the offense,” Little said of Millsap. “He’s got a good understanding of what we do in our running game and passing game.

“As a coach, there’s no greater feeling than having someone who can get you out of bad situations, and that’s what I’m most proud of with him.”
