Decatur FFA fundraiser

The Decatur FFA is selling Blue and Gold sausage, breaded chicken fillets and bacon. Proceeds from the fundraiser will be used for FFA trips and for the annual scholarship. Orders may be placed with Decatur FFA members or by calling Lisa Barrett at 787-0431.

Library Book Sale

The Gravette Public Library is having a book sale during the month of September. All books in the sale room, both hardbacks and paperbacks, are bargain priced at only 25 cents. There are some videos, which also sell for 25 cents. Further reductions may occur the last week of the month.

Jolly Good Times Club

The regular monthly meeting of the Jolly Good Times Club will be held next Wednesday, Sept. 22, at the Billy V. Hall Senior Activity Center. Members will gather at 10:15 in the computer room. The meeting will begin promptly at 10:30. New members and guests are always welcome. Eda Montag will give the program for the September meeting. The potluck meal will include salad made by Chia, sandwiches by Mary, cold fruit soup by Jeanne, a veggie tray from Susan and desserts prepared by Eda and Betty.

Gravette Homecoming

The Gravette High School football homecoming parade will be held at 2:30 p.m., Sept. 17, and will pass through Gravette. The homecoming football game against Poteau, Okla., will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Decatur Homecoming

The Decatur High School football homecoming will be held on Oct. 15. The football game against Western Yell County will begin at 7:30 p.m. Plans for homecoming festivities are underway.

SAC seeking help

The Gentry Senior Activity Center is in serious need of help. Volunteer drivers are needed. They can be any age, male or female, someone who loves helping people and has some free time. The center also has two openings for part-time employment, one janitorial and one clerical. Applicants must be 55 or older and fall into income guidelines. Quilt Fair Entries Needed

Gentry’s annual Fall Festival Quilt Fair will be held Oct. 8-15 at the Gentry City Library. Those who would like to enter a quilt may contact Janie Parks at 936-1498.

Gentry Fall Festival

Gentry’s Fall Festival is set for noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 10. The day includes food, rides, face painting, children’s games and special entertainment by Trout Fishing in America.

Decatur City Council

Decatur’s city council meetings are held at 6 p.m., the second Monday of the month, in the city council room. For more information, call 752-3912.

Town Hall Meetings

The Decatur School District town hall meetings are held at 7 p.m., the third Monday of the month, in the high school cafeteria. Parents and community members are encouraged to attend.

Class of ‘55 Reunion

The Gravette High School Class of 1955 has set its reunion from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 18. Members of the 1955 graduation class, their spouses and guests will meet at the Main Cafe in Gravette for lunch and sharing of memories. Reservations are requested. Faith Weaver begins

Harvest Baptist Church in Gravette will begin its Faith Weaver Friends program tonight at 6:30 p.m. The church is located at 105 Main St. SE in Gravette. The youth group will continue meeting at the Upper Elementary Gym, starting at 6:30 p.m. For questions or a ride, please call 366-0787.

Kingdom Kids

Heritage Baptist Church in Gravette Kingdom Kids program for children from kindergarten through fifth grade continues each Wednesday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Heritage Church Festival

Heritage Baptist Church in Gravette will hold a Backto-School Fall Festival for children up to age 12 from 6 to 8:30 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 18. There will be games and refreshments.

Edline Training

Gentry High School will provide Edline training during the parent-teacher conferences from 2-4 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 20, and from 2-6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 21.

Gravette Public Library

Gravette’s Public Library, located at 407 Charlotte S.E., serves Gravette and the surrounding school district. The library is open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The library is Internet equipped and has an extensive children’s section. Past copies of The Gravette News Herald, dating to 1894, are available on microfilm for genealogical research.

Gentry City Council

The Gentry City Councilholds regular meetings in the city court room at 6:30 p.m., the first Monday of each month. The Gentry Planning and Zoning Commission meets in city hall at 7 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month.

Gentry School Board

The Gentry School Board will meet at 8 p.m., Monday, Sept. 20, in the High School Library for its annual report to the public.

Springtown Council

The Springtown Council meets at 6 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month, in the new community building. A hearing regarding the abandonment of an alley is set for its September meeting.

Town of Highfill

Highfill’s next council meeting will be at 6:30 p.m., Oct. 14, at the Highfill Community Building. The planning commission meeting is at 6:30 p.m., Sept. 28.

Gentry Lions Club

The Gentry Lions Club meets from 6:30 until 7:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month. The club is now meeting in the Gentry Public Library’s community room. Visitors are always welcome.

VFW Meetings

The Gentry/Decatur VFW Post meets on the first Tuesday of each month - at 7:30 p.m. New members and guests are welcome. The facility is 3 miles east ofDecatur on Arkansas Highway 102, right on Tilly’s Hill Road, and the first building on the right.

National Take-Back Day

The Drug Enforcement Administration is holding a one-day initiative on Sept. 25 for the public to surrender their expired or unused medications to local law enforcement for destruction. Prescriptions can be dropped off at the Decatur Police Department from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., and at the Gentry and Gravette Police Departments. Life Chain in Gravette

All persons interested in taking a public stand concerning the right to life issue are encouraged to participate in National Life Chain Sunday 2010 on Oct. 3. Life Chain calls us to an hour and a half of intercession on our local sidewalks. This year, as in other years, Life Chain will be held on the sidewalks in front of Gravette Holiness Bible School between the hours of 2 and 3:30 p.m. Participants are asked to gather at 1:45 p.m. for prayer and to sign in. Gravette Holiness Revival

The Gravette Church of God (Holiness) will be in revival from October 5 to 10. The speaker will be Robert E. Thompson Sr. Thompson is pastor of the Mt. Zion Church of God (Holiness) near Ava, Mo. He and his wife have pastored for many years. Pastor Thompson has taught in two Christian schools and has written the “Key Comments” for the Way, Truth and Life Sunday School literature for more than 30 years. The public is invited to attend the services each night at 7:30 and on Sunday at 10:45 and 6:00.

Watercolor Workshop

Edgmon Art, located on Stagecoach Road in Gravette, will host a watercolor workshop Oct. 6-9 with Duane Hada as instructor, Susan Edgmon, local artist, announced. The workshop will include demonstrations and individual instruction including Ozark landscape technique by the award winning artist from Mountain Home.
