Wilda Eldred

Wilda Winchester Eldred, 81, of Ontario, Ore., formerly of Sulphur Springs, died Aug. 23, 2010.

She was born Dec. 23, 1928, in Neosho, Mo., the daughter of Floyd and Ona Winchester.

The family moved to Sulphur Springs, where she graduated from high school. She married James (Jim) Eldred in 1947. They moved to Nyassa, Ore., in 1953.

She was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include two sons, J. L. Eldred and Floyd Eldred, and one daughter, Margie York, all of Oregon; five grandchildren and two brothers, Dean Winchester of Irrigon, Ore., and Virgil Winchester of Tiff City, Mo.

Funeral services were Aug. 27 in Ontario, Ore.

Faye Lee Smith

Faye Lee Smith, 78, of Gentry, died Sept. 8, 2010, at Northwest Medical Center-Springdale.

He was born April 30, 1932, to Kenneth and Gertrude Pearl Spence Smith. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and a truck driver for Anderson Produce before his retirement.

Survivors include two sons, Randy Smith of Texarkana and Stevie Smith and wife Tara of New Mexico; a stepson, Tony Smith of Gentry; a daughter, Shellie Kadle and husband George of Gentry; and nine grandchildren.

Funeral services were Sept. 11 at Wasson Memorial Chapel in Siloam Springs. Burial followed at Dickson Cemetery, near Cherokee City.

Arrangements were by Wasson Funeral Home, Siloam Springs.

Allen Mitchell

Howard Allen Mitchell, 63, died Sept. 11, 2010, at Northwest Medical Center in Bentonville.

He was born Aug. 23, 1947, in Nebraska to Paul and Thelma Mitchell. He graduated from Gravette High School in 1965.

He played baseball at Crowder College for two years and finished college playing baseball for John Brown University. He was a founding member of the Arkansas “Moonshiner” Softball Team, a slow-pitch team. He received his degree in education and taught school for several years in Sulphur Springs. He was an employee of Wal-Mart Stores Inc. for 29 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his daughter Kara; a brother, Rex Mitchell and his wife Mary Beth; sons, Jason Gass and Jackie Gass.

A graveside service was Sept. 13 at Hillcrest Cemetery in Gravette, with Dodie Evans officiating.

Arrangements were by Stockdale Funeral Services in Rogers.
