Gentry planning and zoning committee approves lot split

— The city’s planning and zoning commission approved a lot split on one property and dissolved a lot line on another during its Thursday meeting.

With the condition that a 15-foot public utility easement be added to both new lots, approval was given to split a lot located at 1041 E. Main Street for Lynn Schowalter.

A request from Larry Bobbitt to dissolve a lot line between lots 1 and 3 of block 2 in the Pioneer Woods Subdivision was granted. The request was made to make it possible for a structure to be built near the old lot line.

The commission reviewed some minor changes to the sign ordinance it had previously recommended to the council and referred the ordinance back to the council with a do-pass recommendation.

Among the changes was specifying a minimum letter size of 4 inches for electronic message boards visible to drivers on public roadways rather than simply saying the letters must be easily discerned, removing two limitations on the use of sign banners and changing the body approving traffic signs from “board of directors” to the “city council.”

The commission postponed taking up review of a proposed tree and landscaping ordinance until copies of the proposed ordinance are available to all for review.

A special meeting has been set for 6 p.m. Sept. 30, to take up a matter of rezoning and dissolving a lot line.
