Gravette Farmers’ Market

Gravette Farmers’ Market will continue to operate in Old Town Park through Saturday, Sept. 25. Local vendors will be at the market building from 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., with locally grown produce, as well as other locally produced items. An “Acoustic Jam and Musician’s Swap Meet” will also be held this Saturday as a support for the Market. This one-day event will be for private individuals - not commercial vendors - and banjos, guitars, dulcimers, mandolins, books, strings and tuners will be among the items offered.

Ignite 2010 Youth on Fire

The First Assembly of God in Gravette will be holding an Ignite 2010 Youth on Fire meeting on Sept. 25. The event will include speakers, praise and worship, and food and prizes. Miss Gentry and Octoberfest Pageants

The Gentry Octoberfest Pageant and the Miss Gentry Pageant is scheduled for Oct. 2, 2010 at the Gentry High School Auditorium. The youngest division, 0-12 mo., will begin at 9:30 a.m. The 13-15- and 16-18-year-old divisions will begin at 1 p.m. The Miss Gentry Pageant will begin at 3 p.m. Applications are available on the gentrypioneers.com Web site. Gravette Library Book Sale

Gravette Public Library book sale is continuing through Friday, Sept. 24, with prices reduced. People may select six hardback books for $1, 12 paperback books for $1 or two videos for $1. All proceeds will be used to support the library.

Candidates to speak at Kiwanis Club

Gravette’s candidates for the position of Mayor of the city will be introduced and make presentations at the 7 a.m. meeting of the Gravette Kiwanis Club Friday, Sept. 24. Four persons have filed for the position, Mike von Ree, Ken Foxx, Byron Warren and Deana Deming. The election will be held Nov. 2. The meeting will be held at the Ozarks Community Hospital dining room.

Bible Stories in the Park

First Pentecostal Church in Springtown will sponsor a community gathering in the Springtown Park from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 26. Pastor Mark Rotramel will be telling Bible stories, followed by games and a hot-dog cookout at 6 p.m. In case of rain, activities will be held inside the church fellowship hall, across the street from the park. Maysville Extension Club

The Maysville Extension Homemakers Club will hold their regular monthly meeting this Thursday, Sept. 23, at the Maysville Community Building.

Maysville Appreciation Day

A “Community Appreciation Day” for Maysville area residents will be held Saturday, Oct. 9, at the Maysville Community Building. Activities will begin at noon and continue throughout the afternoon until 5 p.m. There will be free food, music, skits and clothes, as well as inflatables the children can enjoy. Performances by “For His Glory,” “Bethesda” and “Cow Patty Creek” will be highlights of the day, with the theme of the celebration being, “Loving God, Loving People.” Decatur FFA Fundraiser

The Decatur FFA is selling Blue and Gold sausage, breaded chicken fillets and bacon. Proceeds from the fundraiser will be used for FFA trips and for the annual scholarship. Orders may be placed with Decatur FFA members or by calling Lisa Barrett at 787-0431NAGS Meeting

The Northwest Arkansas Genealogical Society will meet at 6 p.m., Monday, Sept. 27, at the Bentonville Public Library. Za-Dean Auyer, NAGS member, will present the program on data management using Legacy Family Tree, tell how to document sources and will demonstrate a record filing system and other genealogical tips. Persons interested in researching their family tree are invited to attend. There is no charge.

Sulphur Springs Baptist Revival

Sulphur Springs First Baptist Church will hold revival services Sept. 26 through Sept. 29 with guest speaker Richard Green and music by “Amazing Grace.” Services will be Sunday at 11 a.m. and each evening at 6:30 p.m., with a fellowship dinner following the Sunday morning worship. Decatur Homecoming

The Decatur High School football homecoming will be held on Oct. 15. The football game against Western Yell County will begin at 7:30 p.m. Plans for homecoming festivities are underway.

SAC seeking volunteers and employees

The Gentry Senior Activity Center is in serious need of help.

Volunteer drivers are needed. They can be any age, male or female, someone who loves helping people and has some free time. The center also has two openings for part-time employment, one janitorial and one clerical. Applicants must be 55 or older and fall into income guidelines. Quilt Fair Entries Needed

Gentry’s annual Fall Festival Quilt Fair will be held Oct. 8-15 at the Gentry City Library. Those who would like to enter a quilt may contact Janie Parks at 936-1498.

Life Chain in Gravette

All persons interested in taking a public stand concerning the right to life issue are encouraged to participate in National Life Chain Sunday 2010 on Oct. 3. Life Chain calls us to an hour and a half of intercession on our local sidewalks. This year, as in other years, Life Chain will be held on the sidewalks in front of Gravette Holiness Bible School between the hours of 2 and 3:30 p.m. Participants are asked to gather at 1:45 p.m.

Gravette Holiness Revival

The Gravette Church of God (Holiness) will be in revival from Oct. 5 to 10. The speaker will be Robert E. Thompson Sr.

Thompson is pastor of the Mt. Zion Church of God (Holiness) near Ava, Mo. He and his wife have pastored for many years.

Pastor Thompson has taught in two Christian schools and has written the “Key Comments” for the Way, Truth and Life Sunday School literature for more than 30 years. The public is invited to attend the services each night at 7:30 and on Sunday at 10:45 and 6:00.

Watercolor Workshop

Edgmon Art, located on Stagecoach Road in Gravette, will host a watercolor workshop Oct. 6-9 with Duane Hada as instructor. The workshop will include demonstrations and individual instruction, including Ozark landscape technique by the award winning artist from Mountain Home. Gentry Fall Festival

Gentry’s Fall Festival is set for noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 10. The day includes food, rides, face painting, children’s games and special entertainment by Trout Fishing in America.

Decatur City Council

Decatur’s city council meetings are held at 6 p.m., the second Monday of the month, in the city council room. For more information, call 752-3912.

Decatur Food Pantry

The Decatur food pantry is open from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursdays.

The pantry offers free non-perishable food to Decatur residents.

The pantry is located at the United Methodist Church in Decatur.

NWA Riding Club

The NWA Riding Club continues to meet at 6 p.m. every other Saturday night until Nov. 1, at the enclosed arena at the Luca-Don Equestrian Center, 23236 Arkansas Highway 12, west of Gentry. Heritage Baptist Church in Gravette Kingdom Kids program for children from kindergarten through fifth grade continues each Wednesday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Gravette Public Library

Gravette’s Public Library is open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The library is Internet equipped and has an extensive children’s section. Past copies of The Gravette News Herald, dating to 1894, are available on microfilm for genealogical research.

Gentry City Council

The Gentry City Council holds regular meetings in the city court room at 6:30 p.m., the first Monday of each month. The Gentry Planning and Zoning Commission meets in city hall at 7 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month.

Town of Highfill

Highfill’s next council meeting will be at 6:30 p.m., Oct. 14, at the Highfill Community Building. The planning commission meeting is at 6:30 p.m., Sept. 28.

Gentry Lions Club

The Gentry Lions Club meets from 6:30 until 7:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month. The club is now meeting in the Gentry Public Library’s community room. Visitors are always welcome.

VFW Meetings

The Gentry/Decatur VFW Post meets on the first Tuesday of each month - at 7:30 p.m. New members and guests are welcome. The facility is 3 miles east of Decatur on Arkansas Highway 102, right on Tilly’s Hill Road, and the first building on the right.

Fall Revival at Bella Vista

Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church at Bella Vista announces a Fall Revival Sept. 29 through Oct. 3 with Evangelist Danny Fagala, formerly of Gravette, as speaker. He is pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Greenbrier. Services will be held each evening at 7 p.m.

Van routes are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday - Gentry, Highfill and Springtown; and Tuesday and Friday - Gentry and Decatur.
