— For the second week in a row, the Bulldogs had a junior high win and a senior high loss.

The junior high team beat Hackett 14-6 in overtime during Thursdays home game.

“It was the first junior high overtime I’ve been involved in,” said head coach Stan Ellis.

Decatur’s Alan Castaneda and Victor Urquidi both scored touchdowns during the game, and the Bulldog’s defense held Hackett all night long except for one long play, he said.

On Friday night, Decatur’s senior high team lost to Hackett 47 to 6 at an away game.

Dylan Yazel had 5 carries for 79 yards and scored 3 touchdowns as Hackett hammered Decatur.

Yazel scored on runs of 1, 8 and 40 yards.

Evan Ray added an 8-yard run for Hackett and hit Dexter Holcombewith a 40-yard touchdown pass.

Ray completed 6 of 8 passes for 110 yards.

Decatur scored with a run by Mitchell Perry.

The Bulldog’s biggest problem is they were unable to stop Hackett’s passing attack, Ellis said. On the positive side, penalties were not a problem for Decatur and the team was able to move the ball, Ellis said.

“The kids played hard the whole game,” he said.

Ellis plans to continue working on Decatur’s secondary coverage as the team prepares to meet Johnson County Westside this Friday for the first home game of the season.

“Johnson County Westside is another good team. We expect a challenge but we’re definitely going to make our best effort to meet it. I do expect a good game out of the boys,” Ellis said.

“The boys play better every week,” he said.
