Grant completes law enforcement academy

— Officer Travis Grant of the Gravette Police Department was one of 53 officers whoparticipated in Basic Police Training Class 2010-C at the Arkansas Law Enforcement Training Academy in East Camden. Graduation ceremonies were conducted Sept. 17 at the SAU Tech Ross Center.

Officer Grant has been employed with the Gravette Police Department since May 2, 2007, as a part-time officer and has served in Part-Time Oneand Part-Time Two status. He graduated with a 96.4 percent GPA and qualified as a marksman.

The twelve week, 480 hour course, which began June 27 of this year, included instruction in standard police tactics, firearms, legal, educational, technical skills and practical exercises. In each course, emphasis is placed upon the officers achieving excellence in both academic subjects and firearms training.

An officer must maintain an academic score of at least 70 percent on each examination and consistently fire at least 80 percent during firearms training exercises to successfully complete all phases of the course, said Gravette Police Chief Trent Morrison.
