Gravette FFA raising scholarship funds

— During the past school year the Gravette FFA Supporters raised over $5,000 toward scholarships for graduating seniors who have declared for schools of higher education and leadership training grants for deserving undergraduates in the 2010-2011 school year.

Four scholarships were awarded and Mr. William Tapp, vo-ag teacher, will be selecting students to attend leadership training courses in the current school year.

These awards and grants were made possible by the annual membership fees paid by interested individuals and businesses and by the donations and collection of scrap metal from various farms and businesses, which members of the supporters loaded and transported for sale to local recyclers.

The Gravette FFA Supporters will be contacting individuals and businesses to renew their memberships for 2010-2011. We welcome your support.

Additionally we will continue to locate farms and businesses with scrap metal, old equipment, old cars or other items which can be sold to recyclers, thus raisingthe funds to continue, and expand if possible, the scholarship awards at the end of April 2011.

Please let us know if you have or know of recyclable material which might be donated in support of our programs.

We are also filing our application for tax-exempt status so that those contributing either membership funds or donating recyclable material may claim those monies on their federal and state tax returns. This filing will be in IRS’ hands by mid-September and we are hopeful for a favorable ruling by March 2011. We will announce the IRS ruling when it is received.

Most importantly, we are extremely thankful for the support given to our organization by the local community and are pleased with the 2009-2010 scholarships and leadership training your support has made possible. With your help, 2010-2011 can be an even bigger success.

We welcome present members and parents of FFA students to attend the FFA Chapter/Support Group cookout. It will be held on Saturday, October 2, at 6 p.m. at Old Town Park in Gravette.
