Gravette student awarded Farm Bureau scholarship

— The Arkansas Farm Bureau has awarded scholarships of $2,200 each to 10 students in Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences at the University of Arkansas.

Receiving the scholarships are Kayla Boling of Gravette, a junior majoring in agricultural business; Tyler Clark of Elkins, a senior in poultry science; Amy Cofer of Searcy, a junior in human development and family sciences; Emily Culver of Fayetteville, a sophomore in food, human nutrition and hospitality;

Dax DeShazo of Rudy, a freshman in agricultural business; Megan Hamilton of Anderson, Mo., a junior in poultry science; Alyssa Kilgore-Pitts of Farmington, a junior in agricultural education, communication and technology; Ryan Napier of Cane Hill, a freshman in agricultural business; Tyler Pendergraft ofHindsville, a senior in agricultural business and poultry science; and Famous Yang of Rocky, Mo., a sophomore in poultry science and food science.

The Romeo E. Short Foundation was established in 1954 with contributions from county Farm Bureaus in memory of Romeo Ennis Short. Mr. Short, of Brinkley, was a founding member of the Arkansas Farm Bureau in 1935. He also served as assistant secretary of agriculture in the U.S. Department of Agriculture and was vice president of the American Farm Bureau.

In 1955, the Romeo E. Short Foundation established a non-endowed scholarship within Bumpers College to recognize and award talented students who are poised to become Arkansas' next agricultural leaders.

More than 250 Bumpers College students have benefited from the Arkansas Farm Bureau - Romeo E. Short Scholarship since its inception.
