Jolly Good Times Club meets

— The monthly meeting of the Jolly Good Times Club was held Wednesday, Sept. 22, at the Billy V. Hall Senior Activity Center with six members and one guest, Charlie Griffin, present.

President Jeanne Hubbard opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag and the group sang “Harvest Moon”. Jeanne’s devotion was “What is a Father?”

Roll call was answered by six members: Chia - a joke, Mary - jokes, Susan - “The Birthday Beatitudes”, Betty - airline jokes, Jeanne - $2 bill joke and Eda - true-life hilarious experience.

Secretary Betty Howard read the minutes of the August meeting and they were approved. Treasurer Mary Griffin gave the financial report.

Eda Montag gave a report on the fundraising drive for the Gravette animal shelter. A discussion was held on shelter needs and possible ways to meet them.

A note from the shelter was read thanking the club for their support.

Betty Howard read a couple of thank you notes from recipients of quilts she had made for the Quilts of Valor program.

Eda gave the program, reading a portion of Norman Vincent Peale’s “Expect a Miracle - Make Miracles Happen” and a story about a country doctor, Dr. John Bean, born in Clyde, Ark.

Members sang the doxology before their potluck meal of sandwiches, fresh veggies, fruit soup, cake and cupcakes.

The next meeting will be Wednesday, Oct. 27. Chia Greer will give the program.
