— Holiness PTF Pancake Breakfast

The Gravette Holiness Bible School will be having a PTF pancake breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 2.

The breakfast will be held in the school cafeteria, located at 606 Atlanta St.

SE. The meal includes hot cakes, eggs, bacon or sausage and juice or coffee. Carryouts will be available. Ticket prices are $6 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under.

Gravette FFA Cookout

The Gravette FFA Supporters are sponsoring a cookout at 6 p.m., Saturday, in the Old Town Park.

Bethel Cemetery Work Day

A work day will be held at Bethel Cemetery, south of Gravette, on Saturday, Oct. 2, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Workers should bring saws, shovels, rakes and clippers - there is a lot to be done. A potluck will be served on the grounds at noon, with a meeting following.

Gravette Baseball/ Softball League

The Gravette Baseball/ Softball League monthly meeting will be held at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct.

3, at the Arvest Community Room. Officer elections will be held for the following positions: Softball Commissioner, Communications Manager/Website Administrator, Concessions Operations Manager, Treasurer, Umpire in Chief/Field Supervisor Schedule Coordinator and Equipment Manager/Field Maintenance Manager. As always, parents, coaches and community members are welcome to attend.

Miss Gentry and Octoberfest Pageants

The Gentry Octoberfest Pageant and the Miss Gentry Pageant is scheduled for Oct. 2, 2010, at the Gentry High School Auditorium. The youngest division, 0-12 mo., will begin at 9:30 a.m. The 13-15- and 16-18-year-old divisions will begin at 1 p.m.

Prayers requested

Prayers are requested for Melva Kirkley, wife of Bob Kirkley who is minister at the Church of Christ in Gravette. Melva was recently diagnosed with cancer.

Maysville Appreciation Day

A “Community Appreciation Day” for Maysville area residents will be held Saturday, Oct. 9, at the Maysville Community Building. Activities will begin at noon and continue throughout the afternoon until 5 p.m. There will be free food, music, skits and clothes, as well as inflatables the children can enjoy. Performances by “For His Glory,” “Bethesda” and “Cow Patty Creek” will be highlights of the day, with the theme of the celebration being, “Loving God, Loving People.”Decatur FFA Fundraiser

The Decatur FFA is selling Blue and Gold sausage, breaded chicken fillets and bacon. Proceeds from the fundraiser will be used for FFA trips and for the annual scholarship. Orders may be placed with Decatur FFA members or by calling Lisa Barrett at 787-0431.

Decatur Homecoming

The Decatur High School football homecoming will be held on Oct. 15.

The football game against Western Yell County will begin at 7:30 p.m. Plans for homecoming festivities are underway.

Quilt Fair Entries Needed

Gentry’s annual Fall Festival Quilt Fair will be held Oct. 8-15 at the Gentry City Library. Those who would like to enter a quilt may contact Janie Parks at 936-1498.

Life Chain in Gravette

All persons interested in taking a public stand concerning the right to life issue are encouraged to participate in National Life Chain Sunday 2010 on Oct. 3. Life Chain includes an hour and a half of intercession on local sidewalks.

This year, as in other years, Life Chain will be held on the sidewalks in front of Gravette Holiness Bible School between the hours of 2 and 3:30 p.m. Participants are asked to gather at 1:45 p.m. for prayer and to sign in. For information, call 787-7312.

Gravette Holiness Revival

The Gravette Church of God (Holiness) will be in revival from Oct. 5 to 10.

The speaker will be Robert E. Thompson Sr. Thompson is pastor of the Mt.

Zion Church of God (Holiness) near Ava, Mo. He and his wife have pastored for many years. Pastor Thompson has taught in two Christian schools and has written the “Key Comments” for the Way, Truth and Life Sunday School literature for more than 30 years. The public is invited to attend the services each night at 7:30 and on Sunday at 10:45 and 6:00.

Watercolor Workshop

Edgmon Art, located on Stagecoach Road in Gravette, will host a watercolor workshop Oct.

6-9 with Duane Hada as instructor. The workshop will include demonstrations and individual instruction, including Ozark landscape technique by the award winning artist from Mountain Home.

Gentry Fall Festival

Gentry’s Fall Festival is set for noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 10. The day includes food, rides, face painting, children’s games and special entertainment by Trout Fishing in America.

Decatur City Council

Decatur’s city council meetings are held at 6 p.m., the second Monday of the month, in the city council room. For more information, call 752-3912.

Decatur Food Pantry

The Decatur Food Pantry is open from 5 to 7 p.m.

Parent Night

Decatur Northside Elementary School will be holding a parent night from 6 to 7 p.m., Sept. 30.

Discipline and volunteer training will be held from 6 - 6:30 p.m., followed by an introduction to the Kuder Galaxy Career Expedition Pilot Program, a getting to know you activity and upcoming parental program activities and dates session. Gravette’s Public Library is open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The library is Internetequipped and has an extensive children’s section.

Past copies of The Gravette News Herald, dating to 1894, are available on microfilm for genealogical research.

Gentry City Council

The Gentry City Council holds regular meetings in the city court room at 6:30 p.m., the first Monday of each month. The Gentry Planning and Zoning Commission meets in city hall at 7 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month.

Gentry School Board

The Gentry School Board holds regular meetings at 7 p.m. on the third Monday of each month in the school district board room.

Springtown Council

The Springtown Council meets at 6 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month, in the new community building. A hearing regarding the abandonment of an alley is set for its September meeting.

Town of Highfill

Highfill’s next council meeting will be at 6:30 p.m., Oct. 14, at the Highfill Community Building.

The planning commission meeting is at 6:30 p.m., Oct. 26.

Gentry Lions Club

The Gentry Lions Club meets from 6:30 until 7:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month. The club is now meeting in the Gentry Public Library’s community room. Visitors are always welcome.

VFW Meetings

The Gentry/Decatur VFW Post meets on the first Tuesday of eachmonth - at 7:30 p.m. New members and guests are welcome. The facility is 3 miles east of Decatur on Arkansas Highway 102, right on Tilly’s Hill Road, and the first building on the right.

Gravette Historical Museum

The Gravette Historical Museum, located in the historic Kindley Home at 503 Charlotte S.E. is open Tuesday and Saturday afternoons from noon until 4 p.m. and on Thursdays from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Displays include those germane to Gravette and the surrounding area and includes photos of all Gravette High School graduating classes dating to the early 1900s. There is no admission.

Gentry Senior Activity Center

Gentry Senior Activity Center, at 121 East Main Street (just east of the Gentry Public Library) is open from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Meals and rides to the center and activities are available Monday through Friday by calling Jackie Bader, the center’s manager, at 736-0378. Van routes are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday - Gentry, Highfill and Springtown;

and Tuesday and Friday - Gentry and Decatur.

Singing Services

Monthly singing services at Falling Springs Church are held at 7 p.m., the first Friday of each month. The church is located northwest of Gentry and west of Decatur on Falling Springs Road.

Address Markers

Gentry Fire Department has reflective address markers available to help responders locate a home or apartment quickly in the event of an emergency. The reflective address markers are only $10 and are made to last for years. For more information, call 228-0694. The signs are also available from the Highfill Volunteer Fire Department. Those in the Highfill Fire District may obtain the signs for $10 by calling 736-5711 or stopping at the Highfill City Hall.

Head Start Enrollment

Northwest Arkansas Head Start program and its curriculum-based child development centers are currently accepting applications for fall 2010 enrollment at all their Gentry and Decatur, locations. Head Start offers a free comprehensive childdevelopment program for children who meet eligibility requirements and were born on or after Aug. 15, 2007. Decatur Public Library

Decatur library hours are 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays; 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3:30 to 7 p.m. on Wednesdays.

Decatur Assembly of God Van Service

Van service is available to children and adults who need transportation to Sunday morning and evening church services and Wednesday evening services at the Assembly of God Church in Decatur.
