— Community members are working with the city to raise money to build a public monument with the Lord’s Prayer on one side and Psalm 23 on the other at the Decatur City Cemetery, according to Mayor Charles Linam.

Linam said a monument with Psalm 23 and the Ten Commandments was recently erected at the Falling Springs Cemetery.

The initiative to put a similar monument at the Decatur City Cemetery began when a community member approached him with the idea, Linam said.

Linam said it will cost approximately $2,600 to build the monument and a base. So far $1,200 has been donated, including an anonymous donation of $1,000 from the community member who conceived theidea, Linam said. There have also been several pledges, he said.

Those who would like more information or who would like to make a donation may call city hall at 752-3911.
