Gentry Blood Drive

The Community Blood Center of the Ozarks will hold a blood drive from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Wednesday, April 6, at the Gentry High School. Eligibility requirements include weighing at least 110 pounds, being in general good health and presenting the required identification.

Rabies Clinic in Gentry

Rabies Clinic Week in Gentry is April 2 to 9. Local veterinarians often offer rabies vaccinations at discounted prices and some offer other yearly vaccinations at a reduced price as well. The Gentry Veterinary Clinic will offer the rabies vaccine for $5 off the regular price.

Rabies Clinic in Decatur

Country View Animal Clinic will be providing a walk-up rabies vaccination clinic at the Decatur Fire Station from 4 to 5:30 p.m., April 6.

Decatur High School

The Decatur High School Junior-Senior Prom will be held at the Northside Elementary School Cafateria from 8 p.m. to midnight on April 16. Graduation ceremonies will be held at 7 p.m., May 13, in the Lloyd Peterson Gymnasium.

Decatur Fire Dues

Decatur Rural Fire Dues are due May 1. Property owners living outside Decatur’s City Limits but inside the Decatur Fire Department’s response area are required to pay $40 per year for each dwelling on their property. If the dues are not paid, residents will be fined $500 for each fire call on their property. For more information, call 752-3912.

Diabetes and Obesity Education

Ozarks Community Hospital will hold a free diabetes and obesity education class at 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, in the OCH cafeteria. Kathy Smith will be instructor for the session, which is open to the public and without charge. Snacks and drinks will be provided. Reservations should be made by calling 344-6464 before April 15.

Similar classes will be scheduled the third Tuesday of eachmonth at the same time and location. Contact Smith at 344-6458 for information.

Easter Egg Hunt Eggstravaganza

The Decatur Assembly of God Church will present its annual “Easter Egg Hunt Eggstravaganza” at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 23. There will be four age groups - ages 0-2, 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12 - and thousands of candies and eggs to hunt. Hundreds of prizes and several grand prizes will be given away. New this year is a designated hunting area for children with special needs.

Spaghetti Dinner

The First Christian Church in Gravette will sponsor a spaghetti dinner from noon through 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 10, to benefit the Feed My Sheep Food Pantry. Spaghetti, green beans, bread, dessert and drinks will be served or may be taken out.

Kindergarten, Pre-kindergarten Enrollment

Children who live in the Gravette School District and who will reach age 5 on or before Aug. 1 may be registered for kindergarten at Glenn Duffy Elementary School.

Registration will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on April 25-29, to 6 p.m. on April 29, and from 9 a.m. until noon on Saturday, April 30. Parents orguardians must provide proof of age for the child, the child’s social security number, his or her immunization record, evidence of a comprehensive and developmental physical and proof of residence.

Parents should not fail to pre-register because their child needs a physical or current immunizations. Prekindergarten enrollment for children 4 years of age on or before Aug. 1 and whose family income does not exceed 200 percent of the poverty level, may also be completed at the above times. Carnival planned at Cornerstone Baptist

A carnival with food, games, prizes, raffle items and lots of fun for all ages will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 9, at the Cornerstone Baptist Church near Cherokee City (west of Gentry on Arkansas Highway 12, north on Arkansas Highway 43, and west on Floyd Moore Road). Game tickets are 25 cents and money raised will be used to send youth to camp.

Relay for Life fundraiser

A yard and bake sale and lemonade and coffee stand will be at the Gravette old gym parking lot from 8 a.m.

Gentry Cleanup Day

Gentry will be participating in the Great American Cleanup this weekend. Participants may meet at 10:30 a.m. onSaturday to coordinate efforts. Cleanup activities will continue throughout the week. For more information, call the Gentry City Hall at 736-2555.

Gravette Citywide Cleanup

Gravette’s annual citywide spring cleanup continues through Friday, April 8.

Dumpsters are located near the public works building, 801 Plant Access Road, off Eighth Avenue SW (near the sewer treatment plant) for dumping bulk items. For a list of items that should not be placed in the dumpsters, call City Hall, 787-5757.

Decatur Cleanup

Decatur’s annual spring cleanup will be held on April 14. Roll-off Inc. will pick up bulky trash, such as furniture, household appliances with CFCs removed, mattresses, large toys, or Christmas trees, at the curb with their regular trash pick up. Items that will not be accepted include petroleum or paint products, tires, batteries, automotive fluids, engine parts, pesticides, insecticides, herbicides, fluorescent bulbs, televisions, computer monitors, hazardous waste and liquid waste.

Tired Iron Show

The 19th Annual Spring show of the Tired Iron of the Ozarks is set for Friday through Sunday, April 15-17, at the club’s show grounds on Taylor Orchard Road southwest of Gentry. The show features antique engines, old tractors and farm equipment, operational saw mills and blacksmith shop, antique household items and much more. The grounds are open each day, beginning at 8 a.m.

Drug Take Back

The Gentry Police Department will hold another drug take-back day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 30, in the entryway to the city court room. Any unused or expired medication - prescription or non-prescription, solid or liquid - may be turned in for safe disposal. The program is part of a national prevention program to reduce drug abuse and to safely disposeof medications which might otherwise end up in streams, rivers and lakes.

Quilt Class Outing

The area quilt/crafts class is planning an outing next Friday, April 8, to attend the quilt show at the county fairgrounds. Anyone interested is asked to meet at the Gravette Church of Christ annex, 202 Irving St. SW, at 11 a.m. From there a car pool will travel to the Centerton Inn for lunch and then on the fairgrounds.

Library Open House

Anyone interested is invited to an open house at the Gravette Public Library, 407 Charlotte St. SE, from 9 a.m.

to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 16.

Events of the day will include door prizes, refreshments, live music and library tours.

Area Quilt Class

A free class for area quilters and crafters will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 16, at the Gravette Church of Christ annex. Anyone interested is invited. Please bring projects in progress and a snack to share.
