Decatur police car hits cow

— Decatur Police Officer Chuck Eggebrecht ran into a cow with his patrol vehicle during the early hours of Thursday morning, according to Police Chief Terry Luker.

Eggebrecht was on his way to work about 1:30 a.m. when he hit the black cow in front of the Faith Bible Church on Arkansas Highway 59, just south of Gravette.

Eggebrecht was not injured in the accident but his vehicle, a 2002 Ford Explorer, was totaled.

Luker said that, as far as he knew, the cow survived and was seen leaving the scene of the accident. The cow’s owner came forward and has an insurance policy that will cover the police department’s losses from the accident, he said. Eggebrecht will be driving a spare vehicle for the time being.
