Lady Pioneers lose heartbreaker game

— The Lady Pioneers re-opened their season after spring break with a hard-fought loss against the Lady Blackhawks at Pea Ridge on April 4.

Lead-off batter Suzie Sikes slapped a double down the third base line and subsequently scored on a passed ball. Sikora Ruiz took one for the team, also to score on a passed ball. Rindy Hudson and Cloie Sikes drew walks and were brought home on a single by Courtney Folker and a fielder's choice by Metaya Snell. Pea Ridge answered with a walk by H.Houy and a two-run homerun hit by Lady Blackhawk J. Winn. Gentry was up 4-2 at the bottom of the first inning.

Suzanna Sikes walked early in the second, moved around on a sacrifice by Ruiz and scored on a homerun hit by Hudson.Gentry allowed two runs for Pea Ridge on a walk and errors before a nice double play by Hudson and Suzanna Sikes brought the second inning to a close.

The Lady Pioneers scored again in the fourth when Cloie Sikes drove one to the fence for a stand-up double and was brought home on a sacrifice by Jordan Olds. Shannea Smartt began a two-out rally in the fifth with a hit down the first base line. Suzanna Sikes singled and Ruiz brought Smartt home with a double.

Gentry scored one run in the sixth when Folker hit a double and scored on a single by Snell. A nice rip to the fence, again by Cloie Sikes, drove in Hudson, who had drawn a walk. Sikes scored on a single by Snell.

Pea Ridge tied the score in the bottom of the seventh and cinched the win with a three-run homerun by S. Rosser.The final scorewas Pea Ridge 14, Gentry 11.

Gentry v. Greenland

On Thursday the Lady Pioneers took on the Lady Pirates in Greenland. The Lady Pirates bats were strong, scoring eight runs on 14 hits. The Lady Pioneers answered with 14 hits of their own, but were only able to bring two runners across the plate. Ruiz went three for four.

The Lady Pioneers junior varsity team fared better, with a 10-1 win over the JV Lady Pirates.

Gentry v. Decatur

On Friday the Lady Pioneers dominated the Decatur Lady Bulldogs with a 17-0 win.

The Lady Pioneers were scheduled to play four games this week: Monday against Berryville at home, Tuesday against Gravette at home, Thursday against Prairie Grove also at home, and Friday against Lincoln at Lincoln.
