Library to hold open house

— The public is invited to an open house from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday, April 16, at the Gravette Public Library.

Saturday’s activities will include tours of the library conducted by library commission members. A string quartet will be playing from noon to 2 p.m. Refreshments will be served and a drawing for door prizes will be held in the afternoon.

The Gravette Public Library, opened 35 years ago, is a full-service library with sections for all ages. It housesover 4,000 volumes of books plus audio books, DVDs and music CDs for checkout. Several computers are available with Internet access, and the reference room holds magazines and books for genealogical and other research.

The library serves an average of 1,200 patrons a month. Membership is free to all in the Gravette School District. Programs offered include a children’s story time (pre-K and under) Tuesday mornings at 10 a.m. and an annual summer reading program. An interactive computer in the young adult room offers young readers a variety of learning experiences. GEDclasses are being held on Tuesday evenings and a tutoring program is offered. A bookmobile takes books to the Billy V. Hall Senior Activity Center each Wednesday.

The Gravette Public Library was chosen as a Star Library for 2010 by the Library Journal. It participates in an interlibrary loan service with several other libraries and people can access a list of the library’s inventory at librarything.com. Voter registration and tax forms are also available at the library.

The library is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays.
