OFF THE CUFF A lesson from 'Johnny the Brave'

— Do you have the faith, the courage, that has been so strongly exemplified for each of us?

Pondering those words “faith” and “courage” can serve as a benchmark: A faith that is remarkably strong and a courage to trust that faith. The one totally unexplainable in human terms, the other so dependent on the first. When faith and courage coalesce, a mere mortal can grow in each.

Thank you, Johnny, a brave, courageous young man, and a family with deep inner faith, for showing us how we too can grow.

Many residents in northwest Arkansas and especially those in Gravette have witnessed, and become a part of, a story of faith and courage.

It is a story that will have no end for those who have been inspired and challenged by the life of a remarkable young man, Johnathan “Johnny the Brave” Trenton Teis, his parents Rob and Amanda, and their family.

The 8-year-old young man aptly became known as “Johnny the Brave,” a fitting title for so young a child who exhibited so powerful a courage. And the faith and courage which enveloped the family as Johnny battled a brain tumor which sadly took his life last Thursday, has become an inspiration and example for all of us. Old, and perhaps most especially, the young.
