Teacher contracts approved in Gravette

— Re-employment of the classified staff and classified administration employees for Gravette School District was completed at a meeting of the school board last Monday night. This completes most of the staffing for District 20 for the coming school term.

Employment opportunities available at this time for the coming year include bus drivers, custodians, substitute teachers and a high school English teacher. Information is available at the administrative office.

Resignations effective at the end of the school year included Ginger Listman, instructional assistant; Mary Jeffries, first grade; Kenneth Johnson, high school math; Betty Austin, food services; and Steve Huckriede, bus driver. Janet Oxford’s res-ignation effective April 14 was also accepted.

After a discussion involving certified and classified salary schedules, the board approved in-place step increases and added a new step 22 for classified staff and step 25 for master’s staff.

The board approved a contract with Mid-America & Associates of Sulphur Springs for custodial services. Theamount of the contract is $187,190 and includes summer maintenance items.

Free Summer Lunches

Also approved was a Food Service Summer Program for students in the district. Initially the free noon lunches will be available at the Gravette campus and will also be transported to children in Sulphur Springs to be served at the Shiloh cafeteria.

Information on the program will be sent home with children, with serving to beginon June 3. Participants will be required to sign in each day as they participate in the program. This service is being provided since the number of students in the district receiving free- or reduced-price lunches now exceeds 51 percent.

The board turned down an agreement with Crafton-Tull for study information on several parking lots. Paving projects on the various lots is still scheduled. Bids for contracts on the jobs have not been sought.

A new roof covering for the original high school music room/cafeteria has been completed. The building, located just south of the administrative office, has had numerous leaks because of deterioration of the original metal roof.

Prior to the business session, the board recognized and congratulated the high school DECA students and their advisor, Bob Johnson, and the HOSA students and their advisor, Angie Scott, for their accomplishments at state competitions and for qualifying for upcoming national participation. Also recognized were the instructors, producers and cast of “The Wizard of Oz.”
