— Gerald Edmondson, a Gentry native, will be performing for the Decatur Barbecue on Aug. 6.

Edmondson, who sings and plays the acoustic guitar, describes his music as a mix of folk and country. He began his career in music in high school and first performed at the Decatur Barbecue, with his twin brother, at the age of 19.

Edmondson played with several bands but ultimately found that working solo was more of a creative outlet.

He writes much of his ownmusic and during the 1990s recorded four songs in Nashville and performed there. But Edmondson ultimately chose the career of a full-time father instead of a professional musician.

Edmondson still enjoys expressing his creativity through songwriting and singing and he continues to perform, locally and regionally, as a solo act at various venues and special events.

“I have always had a passion for music and still enjoy performing,” Edmondson said.

He will be performing on stage in Veterans Park from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., Saturday.
