MT. PLEASANT NEWS

— The area is changing. Gravette is getting a Walmart. The carnage around Mt. Pleasant is in preparation for a long-awaited highway that will bypass Bella Vista. But we have to go several miles out of our way to get from Missouri to Bentonville just to get around Bella Vista. It sure has made the countryside on Hwy. 72 very depressing to look at. What was once lush vegetation is now nothing but ugly scarssoon to be replaced by miles of asphalt and whatever else they use to make highways. I'm told that this highway, when finished, will be a portion that will link Canada to Louisiana. Interesting.

Mt. Pleasant just finished a week at Care and Share. It was hot but we had a good time as usual. Hopefully, we made a difference in someone’s life by just visiting with them.

Louise and Darlene McVay and Linda and Alan Sanders spent the day in Joplin onSaturday. We had a good time visiting our favorite antique store. We were also saddened by the utter devastation that remains from the May tornado that hit Joplin. We see all the damage on the news but until you see it first hand, it is very hard to comprehend. We did see evidence of rebuilding, which was uplifting. Our prayers are still with the folks of Joplin.

We held our Fifth Sunday Singing at Mt. Pleasant Sunday. What a wonderful time! Special guests were Betty Pollreis' sister Billy and Billy's daughter Holly, brother and sister McClannathan from the Hiwasse First Christian Church, Jack Reeves and his Family, and the Mt. Pleasant Choir. All brought some wonderful music. We need to do this again real soon.

I hope everyone has a good week. Hopefully, we will get some much-needed rain. Don't know if it is in the forecast or not but it won't hurt to hope. Maybe it will cool off this week too. God Bless till next time.
