Test scores show some improvement

— The Arkansas Department of Education released scores for the 2011 Augmented Benchmark Exams on July 19.

Students across the state showed improvement in 10 ofthe 14 tests administered, with the number of students scoring proficient doubling in some areas, according to a press release from the ADE.

“Our increased use of data for decision making at the classroom and administrative levels is paying off,” said Tom Kimbrell, commissioner of education. “We did well this year as we continue to build upon the success of data-based decisionmaking implemented over the past few years. But we have a long way to go, and we’re ready to take all of our students to the next level.”

Test scores are divided into the categories of below basic, basic, proficient and advanced. The percent of students who score at the proficient or advanced level is often used to track a school's progress.

Following are the percentages of students who scored proficient or advanced at the Decatur, Gentry and Gravette School Districts, by grade level and subject:
