— The Gravette Historical Museum announced completion of the museum annex and will host a ribbon cutting ceremony immediately following the Gravette Day Parade at approximately 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13.

The museum is located at Charlotte Street, S.E., east of the Gravette Civic Center.

The museum will have a special float in the Gravette Day Parade featuring a World War I vintage model airplane. A fly-over during the parade is also being planned to celebrate the museum.

According to Steve Mitchael, spokesperson for the Museum Commission, “The expansion in the new building provides 2,400 square feet of environmentally-controlled and secured display and processing space.

“While the development of many exhibits such as a train layout depicting Gravette in the 1920s will still be in progress, the commission would liketo note that one of the most popular exhibits, a collection of senior class pictures, is hung and ready for viewing.

“Many other exhibits which have been in storage, awaiting completion of the long-anticipated annex, are ready for visitors to enjoy,” Mitchael said.

The Museum complex will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Aug. 13 and admission is free.

The museum is also open Tuesdays and Saturdays from noon to 4 p.m. and Thursdays from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.

As part of the activities on Saturday, Gravette Day, the museum will host a collection of old tractors and engines by the “Tired Iron of the Ozarks,” headquartered in Gentry. The exhibits will be in the museum front yard from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

”Be sure and bring Grandpa so he can reminisce about the good-olddays,” Mitchael said.
