LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Editor,

What happened to Gentry’s American Legion Post 159?

The American Legion is the nation’s largest and most influential network of U.S. wartime veterans, families and communities. This being true, then what happened to Gentry’s Post 159?

Since W.W.II, Post 159 members have served our community and its veterans with everything from welcome-home dinners, rehabilitation programs, specialevents, volunteer activities, concert and holiday observances, to name a few. In 2007 the membership became few enough that the existing members opted to disperse and allow the Post building to be used for other services by the city. Sadly, our community is less cohesive because of this loss, and the building is in disrepair.

There has been a renewed interest in reviving Post 159 membership and to put back into use the original building where Legion members canonce again have a central location from which to serve their community.

Membership in The American Legion is beneficial to veterans, their family members and the community to which they belong.

If you are interested in learning more about Gentry’s Post 159 and what it can do for the community, please contact Shawn La-Belle Hunter at 238-3195 or [email protected].
