McKee employees celebrate national food safety month

— For the last 12 years, employees at McKee Foods Corporation have focused special attention on food safety during the month of September, which is National Food Safety Education Month.

To remind employees that their work is to create safe and tasty snacks for millions of families, the company’s Corporate Food Safety Communications Team puts together a special campaign each year. This year’s campaign includes posters, articles, a special newsletter, coloring sheets for children and much more. The team is responsible for food safety information and awareness on a monthly basis as well. They bring information to employees concerning food safety in the home as well as food safety at work.

McKee Foods’ theme for National Food Safety Education Month this year was submitted by an employee from the distribution center in Kingman, Ariz.“Food safety is our main ingredient.” This tagline is featured throughout the company, and it reminds employees that food safety is important at work and at home.

From washing your hands to making sure you cook foods properly in your kitchen, food safety is an important part of our everyday lives. Whether you send a Little Debbie or Sunbelt snack to school in your children’s lunches or eat at a restaurant, food safety cannot be ignored. So, every September remember to think about the importance of food safety to you and your family, whether you’re eating at home, at a restaurant or picking up some produce from a local fruit stand.

Remember, washing your hands is the No. 1 way to prevent foodborne illness at work and at home. Hand washing saves lives.
