Quorum Court approves funds for Decatur road yard

— Benton County’s justices of the peace gave their approval Thursday to a pair of construction projects the county has been planning for several months.

The Quorum Court approved spending $650,000 for construction of the Westside Road Facility and $650,000 for renovation on the Public Services Building.

The county is planning a satellite equipment storage yard and fueling station for its Road Department on 10 acres in Decatur. The cost of the project is estimatedat $830,000. Part of the cost - about $180,000 - is being paid from a grant from the federal Department of Energy. The $609,000 grant also paid for work on the heating and air-conditioning systems of the county administration building and courthouse. The road yard qualified under the terms of the energy efficiency grant as the county anticipates saving fuel and reducing carbon-dioxide emissions by having trucks and other equipment kept closer to work sites on the west side of the county, instead of driving the vehicles from the main department facility in Bentonville.
