Gentry teams lose two

— The Gentry girls started off strong in first quarter play at Van Buren on Nov. 29 but couldn’t keep that momentum going throughout the game and lost to Van Buren 47-30 in the non-conference contest.

The Lady Pioneers out-scored their opponents in the first quarter 13-12, but picked up only five points in the second quarter, five in the third and seven in the fourth.

Meanwhile, the Van Buren girls consistently scored 12 in the second, 11 in the third and another 12 in the fourth.

Destiny Thomas led the Lady Pioneers in scoring with nine points, including one three-pointer. Shelby Hammond added seven, Tara Arnold another five and Kaylin Cripps, four.

The Lady Pioneers also fell to Springdale in nonconference play on Nov. 30, 59-40.

Springdale outscored Gentry each quarter, 16-10, 18-11,12-10 and 13-9.

Thomas again led the Gentry girls in scoring, with 13. Arnold had eight, Brookelyn Williamson picked up six, and Hammond and Cripps each added five. Arnold led in rebounds with a total of seven. Thomas had five.

The Gentry boys lost to Huntsville on Friday, 59-42, and to Greenland 39-30 on Dec. 1. Both were non-conference games. No further information was available to the Westside Eagle Observer at press time.
