Lions win two of three in tournament action

— After dropping their first game in a basketball tournament at Greenland last week, the Gravette Lions swept through their two remaining games.

In opening round action, the Lions dropped a 55-48 decision in overtime to Cedarville. After overcoming an 8-point deficit in the final minutes of the game, the Lions forced it into overtimewhen Cedarville regained momentum to take the win.

Terence Pierce led the Lions with 13 points in the Lions’ spirited action.

In second round action the Lions overpowered the Mansfield five 55-41 as Terence Pierce hit a pair of three-pointers in the fourth quarter for the pull-away win. Pierce finished the game with 12 points and Kyle Bilderbeck added 11 in the Lions’ winning effort.

In the double-elimination tournament, Gravette took on Huntsville, which had defeated Gentry 59-42, and the Lions took the exciting 45-44 win as Max Greenway aced a free throw with less than five seconds in the game.

Pierce scored a game high 21 points and Bilderbeck added 11 in the winning cause for Gravette.

The Lions were to travel to Pea Ridge Tuesday of this week, entertain Prairie Grove Friday evening and host Greenland next Monday, Dec. 12.
