DECATUR — Business owners in Decatur are asked to renew their business licenses before Dec. 31, according to city administrative assistant Kim Wilkins.

The Decatur City Councilpassed an ordinance requiring the licenses in September of 2010 and the city is sending out reminder letters to business owners as the first renewal deadline draws near, Wilkins said.

The ordinance required businesses to pay $25 a year for the license. It was passed at the request ofseveral business owners, because they needed a license to apply for other permits. Businesses that do not comply with theordinance could face up to a $100 fine.
