Verbal hazing erupts into fight at local high school

— Police are investigating a fight which broke out at Gentry High School when a female student verbally hazed a male student about his dress.

The fight occurred at the high school on Thursday after a female student made derogatory remarks regarding the clothing of a male student, according to Gentry Police.

The exchange of remarks escalated into name calling and then turned physical when thefemale approached the male student, police said.

According to police, the male student kicked the female student in the face even after students had broken up the altercation.

A Gentry emergency medical squad was called to the school and an ambulance was dispatched.

The female student had a possible broken nose and was taken to the hospital by her parents, police said.

Criminal charges are pending against the male student andmay be filed against the female student as well.

Auto theft

Police are also investigating a possible car theft which allegedly occurred at 6:30 a.m., Dec. 1, at 301 N. Otis, in Gentry.

A 1995 Nissan was allegedly taken without authorization from Crystal McNelly. The car was returned at 3 p.m. the same day by a suspect in the case.

It was unknown on Friday morning whether charges will be filed by the prosecuting attorney.
