LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Editor,

The Gravette Police Department received donations toward a fence for the city pound in 2010 and 2011. The funds are not enough to build the fence at this time and there is a more urgent need now.

We would like to use these donated funds toward the construction of a wind blocker on the west side of the pound.

If you or your organization donated to this fund and oppose the change in spending, please call the Gravette Police Department at 787-6948.

Editor, Re: Gentry Snack Shack

I wish to tell of fond memories I have of the Snack Shack. My maidenname was Nadine Allen and I worked in the Snack Shack in the early fifties.

At that time it was owned by a lady who attended the same church as my family. She asked me if I would like to work for her after school, weekends and summers. I was delighted at the offer because it was during the time the U.S. was recovering from the great depression and World War II. During that period of time, high school students had to purchase their own books, and I much needed the money I earned to do that and help with my activities.

The Snack Shack was a popular hamburger shop at that point in time. Many young people used it, as did the local banker every day for lunch. My memories of Mr. Bratt Wasson, the bank owner, are strong. He always came in at noon and always ordered the exact same thing every day.

The irony of this memory is I became a banker myself - the last thing I had in mind at that point in time.

The building was purchased by a local couple during this time because the lady who had owned it moved away. I continued working for them for some time before moving.

The building was kept in very good condition. Even though small, it served many locals.

As a retired Air Force wife and living on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, it is still important for me to keep up with friends, family and local happenings of my home town.
