— Timothy Witcher has submitted an application for a Private Club Class A license for Backdoor Club & Grill at 1190 Highway 59 South in Decatur to the Arkansas Beverage Control Administration, according to a weekly report dated Dec. 16 and published on the agency's website, www.dfa.arkansas.gov.

Witcher has also applied for incorporation of Spavinaw Grill Inc. in Decatur, according to the Dec. 11 issue of the Benton County DailyRecord. He is currently the owner of a number of Decatur businesses, including the TNT Express Truck Stop, TNT Tires, TNT Dirtworks and TNT Trailers. Witcher did not return the Eagle Observer's phone call by press time.

Decatur Mayor Charles Linam said he received a letter from the Arkansas Beverage Control Administration on Friday asking if he had any objections or comments on the proposed private club. The letter and forms were also sent to Decatur Police Chief Terry Luker and Benton County Prosecuting Attorney Van Stone, Linam said.

The forms state that the club would offer dining, television, recorded music, occasional live music, one pool table, video games, dart boards and a jukebox.

Linam said the letter states the three officials have 15 days to reply. He said the licensing board will take their opinions into consideration when making the decision on whether to grant the permit. On Monday, Linam said he was still considering his response but added that he did have some concerns. Linam said when he did make a response, it would be a matter of public record.
