Youth on bicycle hits train

SULPHUR SPRINGS — A Sulphur Springs youth escaped serious injury last Saturday night when his bicycle collidedwith a Kansas City Southern train.

The youth, whose name and age were not released, told authorities the chain came off his bike and he was unable to stop and ran into the side of the train. According to Sulphur Springs fire chief John Varner, the youth escaped with some cuts and bruises.

"He was lucky,” Varner said.
