Cemetery plot cost going up in Decatur

DECATUR — The price of a final resting place in the Decatur City Cemetery doubled this month, but the cost is still well under that of other local cemeteries.

City council members voted at the Dec. 12 meeting to increase the price of cemetery plots from$100 to $200, with the extra money going towards maintenance costs.

Mayor Charles Linam told the council he called a number of local cemeteries and the least expensive burial plot was $300.

The city has budgeted $7,000 a year towards maintenance so the extra $100 per plot will be a big help, Linam said.
