— At Mayor Paul Lemke’s request, the town council, at its January meeting, discussed project goals to be accomplished in 2011.

According to unapproved minutes of the Jan. 11 meeting, the following projects were suggested:

1. Proceed with attempts to get a grant for street work - paving and sidewalks;

2. Work for the preservation of the spring and Flint Creek;

3. Put in a park on the bank of Flint Creek below the new bridge, after the bridge is completed;

4. Covered pavilion for the park;

5. Getting the drainage ditch on Springtown Main Street cleaned out and flowing properly again - Lemke said he would follow up on this with the Benton County road boss and with Vernon Reams and also talk with Don Johnson for suggestions;

6. Improving cooperation between the town council and other town residents.

No other business was transacted at the January meeting, according to the unapproved minutes, but the following items were reported:

◊Lisa Lawrence will be working with the town clerk to set up a Web site for the town;

◊The town was still waiting on grant moneyfrom the Northwest Arkansas Economic Development District to build a bridge across Flint Creek on Aubrey Long Road;

◊Work continues on grading streets and filling potholes;

◊A meter loop has been built to supply power to the town’s yard shed, and the ditch for the project will be dug when the installer notifies the town he is ready to begin the installation;

◊A speed bump will soon be moved and a railroad tie cut to alleviate problems for a resident backing out onto the city street; and

◊Plans are in place to have a barrel hydrant installed at the city park.

In previous meetings - November and December of 2010, a resolution was passed establishing rules for public comment at council meetings and a town Web site was suggested as a means of keeping residents informed of meeting agenda items.

The town was seeking permission to put up signs at churches in town for the posting of city ordinances rather than publishing them.

Reports were made of a resident illegally breeding rattlesnakes within the town limits, but the reports were not yet confirmed by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission.

A contract was signed with Roll Off Services for city trash service in 2011.
