— The Decatur Fire Department has been chosen to receive a $75,000 grant from the Arkansas Rural Services Block Grant Program to build an addition to the fire station, according to Mayor Charles Linam.

Linam received a letter from the Arkansas Department of Rural Services, dated Feb. 17, stating the application for the grant was successful. The city applied for the grant in January, asking for money to pay for building a bathroom, office space and a bay for an extra truck.

The grant will be awarded at a ceremony in the Governor’s Reception Room at the Capitol on March 9. Linam said he plans to attend the ceremony along with the fire chief and another council member.

“We are very pleased and very happy with the response we got from the town for the public meeting and the letters that were written in support of the grant,” Linam said.
