Gravette mayor takes office

— Gravette’s new Mayor, Byron Warren, officially assumed that title Saturday morning at the Benton County Courthouse, during a “swearing in” ceremony of county and numerous municipal officials.

Newly elected members of the Gravette City Council will be sworn in at a special meeting of the council this Thursday, Jan. 6, at 5:30 p.m., at the city hall.

Benton County Clerk Tena O’Brien will administer the oaths of office to John Rambadt, Larry Stidham, JimmyDenver, Melissa Smith, Tena Crose and Bill Howard.

Mayor Warren, interviewed at city hallMonday morning, spoke briefly of his first few hours in office, of having met with several citizens and city employees.

Various city committees, their members and assignments are expected to be outlined during this specialmeeting. No other items have been listed on the agenda.

Warren administered oaths of office to Gravette Police Chief Trent Morrison and officers of the force on Saturday which allowed them to legally perform their duties in the function of that department.

Warren said, “I am in the process of making administrative decisions that will streamline the various city departments, make them more efficient and lower human resource costs to the city.”

These decisions will be announced within the next few days, he indicated.

The first general meeting of the council is scheduled at 7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 27, at the Gravette Civic Center.
