Lady Pioneers continue to win

— Gentry’s Lady Pioneers ran their season record to 13-4 with wins over Berryville and Ozark during games played last week. Gentry toppled Berryville 74-44 in action at Gentry last Friday and the following night traveled to Ozark to take an impressive 58-49 win after dropping behind in the first quarter.

The Pioneers won their conference match-up against the Bobcats of Berryville 51-37 but couldn’t overcome a lead by the Ozark boys in dropping the game 64-59. The season record is 12-5.

In the girls’ action against Berryville, Gentry jumped to an early lead in the first quarter, led 38-26 at half-time and in a show of defense in the third quarter, they outscored the visitors 14-8, then coasted to the win.

Terra Jones led all scorers with 25 points with Courtney Millsap adding an impressive 13. Other Lady Pioneers scoring were Tara Arnold, Kaylin Cripps, Loren Cripps and Katie Williams each adding 6. Linay Walker added 5 and Destiny Thomas 4.

At Ozark the team pulled ahead during the first quarter 22-15 but Gentry rallied to a 36-22 edge at half-time. The Lady Pioneers then put the game away during the next two periods, outscoring their opponents 22-17 for the 58-49 win.

Terra Jones poured in 26 points, Loren Cripps 13, Courtney Millsap 9 and Tara Arnold 5. Kaylin Cripps and Kendra Boyd each added 2 and Linay Walker added a free throw point.

Boys Action

In Boys action the Pioneers set the tone of the game with a 21-10 edge over Berryville during the first quarter, led 33-23 at half-time and then coasted to the 51-37 victory.

Joe Morris paced the scoring with 22 points; Kevin Scherer had 12, Austin Millsap 9, Justin Bryant 6, and Chris Wiand rounded out the scoring with two points at the free-throw line.

Traveling to Ozark, the Pioneers jumped to an 11-5 lead at the end of the first quarter but dropped to edge 29-24 at half-time. After dropping further behind in the third period, the Pioneers almost pulled it off by outscoring the host team 25-15 in the final period.

Kevin Scherer led all scorers with 23 points, followed by 17 from Joe Morris. Austin Millsap pumped in 7 and Austin Bryant and Chris Wiand rounded out the scoring with 6 each.
