Robbery suspect still unidentified

Police seeking help in identifying man who demanded drugs at Austin Drug in Gravette.

— The investigation continues following an armed robbery at Austin Drug last week, according to Gravette Police Captain David Smith.

Smith said, “We have a few suspects, but not enough to move on them.” He added, “We have appreciated all the leads and information the public has provided us.”

The robbery occurred Jan. 17, just before closing time at the drug store on Main Street, when a lone white male, dressed inblack and wearing a mask, entered the business and demanded narcotics.

When the store owner, Ken Austin, hesitated, the subject, who kept his hand in a jacket pocket, threatened Nick Austin, the pharmacists’ son.

After securing a quantity of oxycodone, a narcotic used in pain treatment, the subject left the store.

Smith said a video of the subject taken from a location nearby was sent to the county where an attempt was made to enhance the images.

Two customers, AmyPorter and Beth Austin, no relation to the store owner, were in the business at the time. Neither was threatened. Both confirmed details of the robbery.

According to officers, several persons reported seeing the subject on Main Street and in the area shortly before the robbery occurred.

Smith said county authorities have been cooperating in the investigation. He asked that anyone who may have any additional information call the Gravette Police Department at 787-6948.
