Stabbing was self-inflicted

— A Benton County man who reported Tuesday he had been stabbed by two men was arrested Wednesday in connection with felony filing a false report of criminal wrongdoing, jail records show.

Johnathan Michael Engleman, 23, told deputies from the Benton County Sheriff’s Office two men in a white pickup stopped, came to the roadside and stabbed him, according to a police report.

The incident occurred in the area of Arkansas Highway 43 and Van Fleet Road in western Benton County.

However, when Wes Bryant, an investigator with the Sheriff’s Office, interviewed Engleman at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville, Engleman admitted the stabbing was self-inflicted, authorities said.

Engleman told Bryant he had stabbed himself before in the right shoulder in 2009 and shot himself in his left shoulder, also in 2009, police said.

The 2009 incidents were handled by authorities inDelaware County, Okla., according to Bryant.

Engleman’s father was arrested in connection with a Decatur knife attack.

Johnathan Michael Engleman is the son of Stephen Engleman, 47, who was one of Benton County’s most wanted fugitives.

The elder Engleman was wanted by Benton County authorities since Nov. 17 in connection with felony firstdegree battery for cutting a woman’s throat with a knife after he had threatened tokill her. He was riding in the back seat of the woman’s car down Arkansas Highway 59 when he allegedly reached over the seat and cut her with the knife.

The car stopped at E-Z Mart in Decatur and Stephen Engleman fled on foot.

He was arrested on Jan. 19, in Noel, Mo., by investigators from the Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Marshals and Noel authorities. He was being held in Missouri pending extradition.
