Decatur seeking photos depicting town's history

— The Iva Jane Peek Library is planning an exhibition of old photographs to celebrate Decatur's history and is asking community members to help by donating pictures.

Photographs depicting Decatur businesses, stores, schools, events or long-gone landmarks are being sought and gathered for the event that will last from mid July thoughthe Decatur Barbecue on Aug. 6.

Community members are invited to come look at the pictures during library hours or contribute to the exhibit, said librarian Karen Jones.

Donors do not have to risk letting go of priceless original pictures for the project. The library has resources to scan them by computer or take pictures of the originals if need be, she said.
